DeletedUser202 sure, both dark theme, the extra dim feature (which does not make much difference on the 8) and at night, the night light.

But i guess its just me. Anyways, thanks all for suggestions

DeletedUser399 Make sure you also configured "Extra dim" intensity in accessibility settings. According to news, Google is planning to remove "Extra dim" feature and instead make the screen even dimmer on the lowest brightness level, so maybe that will help as well.

I noticed something similar when upgrading from a Pixel 5 to Pixel 8. The "black" background colors on the 8 seem more like a gray than the true black colors on the 5. They were both running the latest version of Android 14 at the time, and adjusting the brightness, Material You colors, or Extra Dim setting didn't account for the difference. I eventually got used to the lighter colors but I did prefer the darker look on the 5. I'm not sure if it's a software difference or the hardware.

calpurtmun i came to gos on p5 from sam s20 and I clearly remember screen downgrade which is still the case with p8. Pixel's hardware is forever behind.

As for black not really being black might be an issue of the user falsely expecting a "dark" theme to be "black" as I can not find an option in pixel settings for a "black" or "oled" theme, only dark. On the other hand some apps provide such options, and when chosen my p8 perfectly makes the true black where designed by those apps. So for this one it sounds more like a feature request that should be addressed to gos devs as an additional theme option.

Onlyfun it could be a feature request yes. But i first wanted to know if this was a thing not only i experienced. Guess not. For now i conclude that the p8 darkest is much brighter than on the p5. But also notice this could change if android tweaks this setting in the future

I'm using a pixel8 pro and everything works fine, I can go from extremely bright to darkness using the slider. I sympathize with your problem though reading at night with bright screen is a real bummer.

I have P8P. When I use lowest brightness and extra dim at lowest settings, at night it's visible, but I never felt that I want go any lower. When added night light, it's unreadable for me. I would be nice if extra dim would disappear and replaced by lowering the lowest brightness settings. Overall I'm satisfied with range of brightness.

BRNko i think that the screens might be different. Yours sounds like my ol p5 was, the p8 is different. I tested the p8p and p9 in store and found this.
