Thanks! I did not spot this thread. Will try out Organic Map.
I'm in the same boat (location sharing through Maps). My workaround has been to toggle off the setting to "reroute location requests to the OS" and use instead location through Google. Not ideal, but it does work for me. I'm hoping to soon be able to go back to my original settings, however.
I'm seeing the same issue. Location sharing was working several months ago, but it no longer functions today. Services that require location are able to use it, the only thing that isn't working is location sharing via Google Maps. I can receive locations from my significant other, but I can't send them. "Reroute location requests to the OS" is disabled, Google Play Services has "Allow all the time" location permissions with precise location enabled, and all the other location-related settings are configured as you would expect.
A quick scan of the logs doesn't show any relevant errors, so I'm pretty stuck on where exactly the disconnect is. If anyone has any clues, please chime in 🙏.
zero-one have you given play services the physical activity permission? That also seemed necessary for my sharing to kick back on
Location sharing appears to have moved from Google Maps to Google Play services. That's probably why there was a change. It wouldn't be related to the 2025011500 update.
Hope this isn't too off topic for this thread but I found an app called Paralino that better fills my use case of location sharing (encrypted) and doesn't need me to stop rerouting location requests to the OS. The free tier is adequate for my needs, so I thought I'd pass it on if the reason for this thread is still an issue for OP.
If anyone finds reasons this app shouldn't be used, please let me know!
Turtacular I keep getting "Error while creating account". Did you have to do anything special?
I have been using Zood Location for a while. Much simpler app.. only shows location on a map. Free.
biscuit_tosser_88 No, didn't have to do anything special. VPN running? I also didn't make an account, just used guest.

Do you know where it saves the location? Looks like it heavily depends on GPlay and GMaps SDK.
How battery and data-friendly is it? I did a quick look and the app doesn't seem to have any user-based controls over how often the location upload happens. Does it run constantly?
