When I USB connect my pixel 6 to my ubuntu laptop I can transfer files but at the same time on the phone under backup there is no usb device available. How do I fix that so I can backup to my laptop? Thanks

Thanks. But that does not help since I cannot "back up to internal storage, then copying the .SeedVault directory to a USB flash drive" since

    1. There is no option to backup to internal storage.
    2. I dont have a .SeedVault directory.
    3. My a USB flash drive is recognised in the file manager but not in the backup tool, the USB flash drive was formatted by the phone to exFAT

I cannot upload screenshots here, so it is difficult to show the settings.

What happens when you tap "Backup location" in SeedVault? Is there not an option with the name of your device? That represents the device's internal storage.

      1. I don't have a .SeedVault directory.

Backing up to internal storage is what will create the .SeedVault directory, so fixing #1 is required for #2.

My backup software is called Settings > System > "Sicherung" which translates from German to English "Backup". There is no mention of SeedVault.

feliik the default backup in the settings is SeedVault

In my Pixel 6 GrapheneOS Android 15 it is "Sicherung", not SeedVault.

feliik Yes, the Sicherung feature is using seedvault in the background, it is just named 'sicherung' or 'backup'

de0u I cannot tap on "Backup location" since it is disabled, see screen above.

What if the USB device is not present?

de0u "Settings, Apps, See all __ apps, ⋮, Show system, Seedvault, Storage & cache, then "Clear cache" and "Clear storage"."
... solved it. I had to go through the passphrase setup again and then I was able to select either internal or USB storage. Backup running as I text...
