PWAs disappear after reboot

This issue happens since Android 14, with Mulch (RIP) and Vanadium.

So I can exclude browser configs etc. They dont even delete data on close, apart from what may be set by default.

Every time I reboot, these links are gone. They worked in between I think? It is not always every reboot it seems?

This time a normal reboot, no update, all icons gone.

Based on this description I am not following whether it is or is not every update, and whether it is or is not every reboot.

Is this in the owner profile or a secondary profile (or both)?

Is it possible to list some specific PWAs?

PWAs has been disappearing on GrapheneOS for a long time.
For me they usually disappear when i switch profiles but it recently noticed that some disappeared after the last update so that may just have been it.

I had the launcher icons (PWAs) there for a while and then they were suddenly gone. So absolutely not every reboot either.

Then there was an update and they were gone, I think. May have been the reboot after that update.

Extremely hard to reproduce.

I haven't had a single shortcut or PWA disappear... The difference might be that I keep them all in folders and I always use a secondary profile.

This is an edge case and some people never have it

Yes It's my default, but i also tried PWAs with other browsers like brave and Firefox.
P.S. I think if one were to use google chrome the PWAs will be registered at OS level and thus they won't be disappearing like with other browsers.

Not really, probably had a dozen PWAs at the most (in single profile that is) but since they randomly disappear I don't usually bother adding more then a few.

Nope, primarily using secondary user profiles.

yellow-leaves good point! Google Chrome does something weird with PWAs and installs them as Apps.

this could be an answer. On Firefox this never happens, so I use it way more than I would like to.

I'm sure I tested Firefox before and that the PWAs disappeared just like with Vanadium.

missing-root This is the whole point of PWAs - that the OS treat them like traditional apps, not just bookmarks. Showing up without a browser sub-icon, showing up in the app drawer, that's all exactly how they should work. PWAs are an excellent way to further isolate what gets accessed on the phone and I hope GrapheneOS fixes this big and treats PWAs appropriately.

Tried Firefox again, switched profiles and the Firefox PWA disappeared along with the other PWAs installed by Vanadium.

Got the same issue on Pixel 6a GrapheneOS latest stable release.

It's been happening for about 3-4 weeks now.

I get this issue on pixel 7a, but not only "after reboot", it's much more random.

I mainly use two user profiles back and forth:
#1 is always running in the background with google play without account and no playstore.
#2 is not running in the background and has no google play services.

So far the webapp in profile 1 hasn't disappeared after two or three updates and reboots.
For profile 2 I just have to switch a bunch of times between profiles during regular use and eventually the shortcuts are gone.

Same issue. Did a two week "dry run" of GrapheneOS, back in November/December, before making the switch. Ran into this issue, with both stock launcher and μLauncher, which was a disappointment.

"Oh well..."

Clean slate, GrapheneOS for real since 1½ months now. Did add a few PWAs, but was wary due to the previous experience.

PWAs stayed safe though! "Huh, I guess the bug has been fixed then!"

After all, there's been a few new updates to Vanadium since.

Until today. Poof! All gone. Only change that was made before reboot is that I added a whole bunch of new PWAs — trusting the bug was no more.

I can thus only assume that there seems to be a correlation with the amount of PWAs on launcher before the bug triggers.

Unfortunately, I'm unsure of the PWA count before or after the incident today. But I'd estimate I had 6-8 PWAs when everything was stable, and was probably up to 20-25 now...

I suppose it could be an upstream bug, but whatever the case it seems fitting for GrapheneOS to focus on as PWAs are likely more popular with the privacy/security crowd.

Hoping I may have shed some light on the issue, in case my hunch is right.

0xC0DED0D0 do other widgets disappear with the PWAs? I understand this may be a bug, but why not try placing a Vanadium Bookmarks widget on homescreen instead where you can order links by importance and conveniently scroll through it.

EverettHitch Appreciate the workaround idea, and I've seen it mentioned elsewhere. Not ideal with my minimal μLauncher setup, but I suppose it could do for the time being.

Still hoping for a permanent fix of the issue.
