How do we auto backup contacts to cloud from the default app?

Are there alternative recommendations while keeping the record call feature?

Thx

The default Contacts app does not support backup/sync to the cloud or external target.
You need a helper app, e.g. DAVx5.

Oggyo DAVx5 doesn't back up anything, it synchronizes.

@lawman You could use Nextcloud's Android app to make a daily backup of your contacts (and calendars).

      That's why I wrote "backup/sync". ;-)
But depends on the point of view - a synced copy (2nd copy) can serve the purpose as backup, at least for me.

In the mood for self-hosting ? Try Radicale and DavX5 ;)
I promise, I stop with that stuff for today .. :)

Never ever see those two as even remotely similar. It will ruin your life (or at least your mood 😛) as soon as you actuallly need your backup. Consider what would happen to your "synced copy" if you were the victim of a ransomware attack.

That said, you could of course sync to a second location and then set up a backup schedule for that second location.

But OP asked for a backup feature, not sync.

SovereignCopper OP might as well have asked for "backup" with the lesser specific meaning of "another copy somewhere". Backup is a very unprecise word, since it doesn't specify if you have one backup (quite similar to having a synchronised copy, although not identical) or a series of historical backups, which is very different. It is quite usual to have a sync and back it up with a dedicated strategy.
