I know they don't recommend Tor, is it the same for Orbot (for non web browsing things but for use with apps)
What is grapheneos team stance on Orbot?

andeluehlo why don't they recommend Tor?
andeluehlo I know they don't recommend Tor,
What they don't recommend is Firefox or its forks (like Tor browser) for general web browsing where anonymity is not really required.
If you truly need to be anonymous, use Tor browser, but realize there are security tradeoffs.
Do not use Vanadium + Orbot to access Tor.

Orbot for apps that need to access onion services is fine.
I should add that I do not speak for the GrapheneOS team. I'm just reporting what I've seen them say elsewhere.
andeluehlo Orbot is not an official Tor Project app. It's very poorly implemented and the developers have a history of writing insecure code and not being trustworthy. We recommend avoiding it. Tor Browser doesn't depend on Orbot, but is problematic for other reasons.

Orbot isn't really fine. Tor is making their own VPN service app which is what should be used once it's available.
GrapheneOS wait orbot isn't official? I thought it is and that's why I trusted it!!
someone27281 while it is in fact made by different team than tor project, called guardian project. it is listed on torproject's website which makes me think torproject team is not distancing themselves far from it.
GrapheneOS Tor is making their own VPN service app which is what should be used once it's available.
Do you have any source about this? An Orbot alternative made by the Tor Project is something I am looking forward to using.

It's interesting and I'd like to know more about it.
