Every time there is a release, my phone doesn't download it until a few days afterwards. If I go into the settings and hit software update, nothing happens. Is there a way to force the phone to check for an update?

chock-a-block Every time there is a release, my phone doesn't download it until a few days afterwards.

That's normal and a very common question. More detailed info explaining that can be found here...

A release announcement indicates that the source code tags are available and that the official builds will soon be pushed out via the Alpha channel.

    ... and here

Releases are tested by the developers and are then pushed out via the Alpha channel. The release is then pushed out via the Beta channel shortly afterwards. Finally, the release is then pushed out via the Stable channel after being tested by some users using the Beta channel. In some cases, problems are caught during Beta channel testing and a new release is made via the Beta channel to replace the aborted one.

This is because you're on the stable release channel. You have the option to switch to Beta or Alpha channels in the System update settings.

chock-a-block If I go into the settings and hit software update, nothing happens.

We recommend staying on the Stable channel if you prefer to avoid any potential temporary issues while a new Beta release is being developed.

akc3n Ah gotcha, thank you. I didn't realize that the release announcement = alpha channel, that makes sense. I will be more patient going forward.

      Thanks

chock-a-block I didn't realize that the release announcement = alpha channel, that makes sense.

Around a year ago I experimented with posting a clarification about this following each release announcement, but I gave up because people asked me why I was doing it.
