  • Mullvad VPN/DNS has messed up my internet

I'm unsure if this issue has anything to do with GrapheneOS' changes regarding VPN connections, but my phone can no longer resolve addresses while on Wifi. I used to use both Mullvad's VPN and DNS but want to change to just using the VPN.
Internet is available as indicated on the status bar, but I am constantly met with ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE no matter what. Automatic DNS, Private DNS, no DNS, turned Mullvad VPN off and disabled "Block connections without VPN". Even the VPN app itself can't connect unless I enable the VPN. It's not an issue with the router as all my other devices work fine. Turn on mobile data and my internet is fine...

I'm out of ideas.

Delaney I know it's likely not the router as other devices are working, but have you tried restarting the router and 'forgetting' the WiFi network and reconnecting from scratch.

Also, do you have internet connectivity checks turned on? It won't fix your problem but it may just help by letting you know if the network you're connected to has issues, according to those checks, which, unless I'm mistaken, go outside the VPN (and possibly use plain DNS even with private DNS turned on as well, though I can't remember if that is the case). It might just help you narrow down the issue, that's all.

EDIT: Ohh and have you made sure private DNS is off in the GOS settings and in the browser you're using? Just in case private DNS is causing your issue

EDIT 2: And of course, have you restarted your phone? :)

I also have issues with ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE. Not for all websites, but some of them.

It happens in the main profile when Mullvad is running. With all browsers (DoH turned off), with all VPN servers, with all DNS settings in the app (e.g. even when setting 1.1.1.1 as the DNS sever in Mullvad). Private DNS is off the GOS settings, too. Restarting the phone does nothing. Changing to a cellular connection also doesn't fix it. Turning Mullvad off works.

Curiously, it does NOT happen in the work profile nor on my PC, both with the same Mullvad VPN server on.

Viewpoint0232 That sounds pretty tricky... Don't know if I can help much but just in case, what are your other settings in the Mullvad app, eg. split tunneling, DAITA, Wireguard obfuscation, MTU, ports, server IP override, etc... etc..?

And have you tried logging out of the Mullvad app (otherwise you need to manually delete that profile from the Mullvad website or it will take 1 out of the 5 allowed log-ins), then clearing the cache and data from the app info settings and logging in again?

I have enabled Local Network Sharing and excluded KDE Connect in the Split Tunnelling settings, and I have added the DNS content blockers for ads, trackers and malware. Otherwise all default settings.

I tried logging out, deleting cache and data and logging in again but it also didn't help.
