Hi all! I’ve always had apple… this would be my first experience with anything else (I’ve used windows at work but nothing else on my own devices.) My partner is using graphene on pixel 8, and it’s going great, so I pulled the trigger on pixel 8 as well. Maybe I will leave apple when I need a new computer… but not now. Any of you have a hybrid apple and graphene setup?

I use the iPad for a bunch of important work stuff and reading; I use my computer for work, and I’m not interested in replacing them any time soon because I just bought them a couple years ago and they’re fine. The phone, I badly need a new one.

How would I handle photos, and messages? I do like having all my texts accessible throughout. I do mostly use signal so I’ll survive but is there an app I could use for this?

Same with photos. I also use proton drive, and have a business acct. does anyone use this across their devices for photos?

I’m not interested in using google for any of this, one of my goals is to de google as much as possible.

Thanks for any experience/insight/tips you can share!

I don't. Never had an Apple device.

Do you mean reading and sending text messages across devices? You can give KDE Connect a try.

Proton Drive should be fine but if it isn't enough, you can check out Ente instead. You could also just use an offline gallery (e.g. Fossify Gallery or Aves) and Syncthing to sync the photos across devices.

For photo management, I use: https://immich.app/

Super awesome. It's free (and opensource), but if you find it valuable, it is recommended to buy a license. No functionality is gated though and it's purely a "I am supporting development" thing.

I use my synology nas to store my photos uploaded from my phone. Then on other devices I can view them via the synology app.

mew_215 I have a similar set up. For messaging, I am not sure I understand your question. Signal has an app for desktop and tablet. For SMS, if you are in the US, you can only use your phone as far as I know (sometimes places like Verizon has options to use SMS via your web browser. You can still use iMessages if you want as well, is your Apple ID.

For photos, you can use ente.io. You basically pick a privacy friendly app that you can use across iOS and Android.

benjistokman Thats fine, I dont care about imessage as much as I just want to be able to like... get a verification code and copy/paste it in my laptop instead of having to get my phone, look at the text, read and type it in(basically my nightmare d/t struggle with reading and making errors). Or like... continue a convo with someone when my phone is on the charger. etc.
