Hi, I intermittently use the call recording in the Google Phone app. When I needed it just now - the option is not there anymore when on a call. Does this happen to anybody else? I'm in Denmark if that is a clue. Since I only use it once or twice a year, I can't say for sure which update it broke under - or even if it's correlated to a grapheneos update, or a Google Phone update.

I'm hoping someone else has some more clues to why this is happening and possibly a way to enable it again.

are you using the phone App that came with GrapheneOS or did you install and use the Google Phone App?

Call recording is only working when using the Phone App that comes with GrapheneOS as far as I know it does not work with other Phone Apps you install yourself.

I am indeed using Google's Phone app, and thanks to your reply, I just tested the GOS Telephone app, and call recording works fine in that. Up until recently call recording also worked in the Google Phone app (it's a standard feature described here: https://support.google.com/phoneapp/answer/9803950?hl=en). But I'm fine using the GOS Telephone app, to get that functionality back, so thank you very much for your reply!

oh interesting I did not know the google phone app has a call recording feature.

perhaps it disappeared because of those AI-transcription functions that are coming to google phones?

I am most likely wrong as i hardly follow news about those "new features" in Android as most of the time its a PixelOS or Google-App only feature or I dont care about the feature (all that AI crap)

Marcus GrapheneOS users are welcome to install Google apps on their phones if they wish. Considering they're here and use GrapheneOS, I'm sure they know full well Google's reputation for collecting data. Community members should be able to talk about using Google apps here without having to worry about people being rude or judgmental.

As I recently said in another post, this isn't a "Google bad" forum. On GrapheneOS, Google apps aren't privileged and are subject to the same restrictions as regular apps, so it does make sense that some people will want to use Google apps on GrapheneOS because they do benefit from privacy and security improvements in GrapheneOS.

I still have call recording on my P8P . The system version only becomes live when the call is answered, and needs to be manually activated. Try other apps, such as TrueCaller or Automatic call recorder
