What is wrong with my dictionary/autocorrect?

Had this for years, on all keyboards I have tried (GOS, Floris, OpenBoard, now Gboard).

I installed Gboard to see if it would help. Weirdly for first few days it was awesome, predictive word suggestions/autocorrect was superb. Suddenly on day four, back to the old unusable ways. I don't understand what influences this. Is there a resettable dictionary or something?

Example: Just wanted to msg someone to say "Ring if you can". Auto correct kept changing the word 'if' to, at first 'id', I corrected to 'if', hit space and it changed to 'of'.

Also I wanted to say 'Thanks'. Pretty damn normal language huh?! It changes it every time to 'Thanksgiving'?! We don't even celebrate that in my country!

Desperate for any ideas/tips to try and sort this, it's just unusable and I'd hate to have to give Gboard network access to get something better. Please offer ideas if you have any! It's a nightmare trying to work like this.

You should try FUTO keyboard. It works really good, is a new keyboard and it is actively maintained. It also has swipe writing, really good voice to text and more :)

It also sucks when, despite selecting the correct language, it chooses to spell words endind "...ised" incorrectly by using a "z". "Metres", as in distance, is another that spell checkers get wrong. I noticed this a lot with Openboard, but found with Heli Board, and now Futo Board, that such language errors tend to occur less

Thanks for the replies, but does anyone know WHERE this crap comes from? I don't know enough about Graphene. Is there a file, a dictionary, a database or something I can clear out.
In the past 20 minutes I took notes of all the problems, as I was in an SMS discussion with someone and it was important to send/reply fast, only making this junk more annoying!

Suggestions about other keyboards confuse me about how it works. I assumed each keyboard must just pull from somewhere in Graphene, there's no way a Google Gboard installation comes preinstalled with words like 'id' to replace 'is' or Justin to replace 'just'!

Hence I wasn't thinking it's a keyboard issue, but a dictionary/autocorrect issue.

That said, I haven't heard of Futo so will take a look, but since my Graphene KB does the same thing as shown above, again I am expecting to see no change. I hope I am wrong, it's a nightmare!

PS I do really like a few features of Gboard. I don't use swipe typing, never will, but I do want a fixed number row and ideally a pasteboard/clipboardhistory. Does Futo do either of those?

Scatterbrain futo, heli, and open all have an option to have a permanent number bar.
Each board must come with its own dictionary. As mentioned, Open would spell things incorrectly, despite selecting the English language, whereas futo does not, although I do find it likes to make it's own selection once in a while, so "of" becomes "if", and similar

Are there any words added to the Personal Dictionary? Settings > System > Keyboard > Personal dictionary
Also, do you absolutely need to use auto-correct, or would it be enough to simply have suggestions?

P.S. Use HeliBoard instead of OpenBoard.

I have 7 added words, none of which I have used for a long time.
It seems whatever 'engine' Gboard is currently using to predict/autocorrect, is screwed up big time.

I just wanted to type a message saying:
"We are still trying to come at the weekend"

It changed 'still' to 'Stoll' (WTF?! and "to" to "tomorrow"!

Even crazier , I tried to type a message with the word "maybe" in it, and it autocorrected "maybe" to "Maybelline", a frigging brand name and one I have never typed in my life on any device! I have no clue what to do here, mainly because I don't understand enough to know whether the problem is somewhere on my device (the 'engine'), or with the keyboard itself. But having seen Gboard work beautifully for 3 days, I am not inclined to think it's a Gboard problem (and Gboard would never be this bad for its millions of users)

Can you check what language you are typing with? Maybe the keyboard is selected to use some obscure English instead of british English or american English. Or if you have one of those English, try switching between them.

Scatterbrain have you tried changing the dictionary to gboard's here: Settings > System > Keyboard > Spell checker > Default spell checker? Make sure you tap the text, not the cog on the right to change to gboard.

I did as you said, gboard wasn't selected so I have selected that and will see how it goes for a day or two.

Check in the settings --> Screen --> Increase touch sensitivity. Diable this setting if it is activated.

And also, check if any accessibility settings has been activated (or maybe something in developer options/menu).

Maybe something is messing with the default animations or how the screen registers touch.

fid02 No, I was just thinking that the algorithm that is supposed to make the keyboard select the correct key you try to touch maybe got screwed up by some touch issues 🤷 I see that they have problems with wrong suggestions, but maybe that is because of historical wrong-typing ?

I've installed Futo today.
It's getting better and better, but why is the APP so huge?
