I do have the play store installed, but I have not logged in. I thought that wasn't needed anymore. Am I wrong? I did install the play store and opened it until it got to the login page and then exited out of it and restarted the phone. Hopefully this solves the problem!

      If you still aren't getting notifications after initializing Play Services (pushing log in but not logging in part), then I've read you might need to reinstall the affected apps for notifications to start working.

          I am having this issue as well. I tried doing what you said: push log in without logging in and reinstall affected apps. I am still not getting notifications.

            LedTasso I might do as you suggested but after a fresh install. I'll report back if that works.

                    LedTasso Try this: Go to settings-apps-apss with special access. Find Alarms and reminders and allow the access for the apps that you need notifications from and test it again.

                      LedTasso Logging into Google Play was never required for Play services to work correctly including working push notifications. You're misunderstanding the previous need to open the login page but not actually log into an account to initialize Play services. Opening that page is not required anymore.

                      Apps depending on Google Play should be installed after GSF was installed in the profile in order for them to work properly. Make sure this is the case by uninstalling and reinstalling them.
