Hey. I have bug or something with every launcher that I tried.
The Recent apps tab often wallpapers "wallpaper, shell" as a programme, I don't know how to explain it correctly, for I am not Native. So here's the video

So nothing?
video again (youtube, sorry for previous discord link)
That's just a thing that happens with 3rd party launchers in my experience. It happens with every 3rd party launcher I've used, even on stock Pixel OS.
Jojojo No, the launcher doesn't show up as an app in the recents menu on stock.
OP, try lawnchair 14. It has wacky recents animation but good overall.
I can confirm the behavior, tested with "Pear Launcher", "Nova Launcher" and "Niagara Launcher". Not always, but very often you can't open the "recent apps", nothing happens. Regardless of whether you operate the launcher using gestures or the three buttons.v

Have you looked at Pear launcher
I also have sometimes the problem that the apps task manager won't open up under Total-Launcher.
After resting the phone it works again.
Everything works for me, since I switched off the "Remove animations" (settings, search "animation", select Remove Animations, disable it/switch off) setting. As soon as I activate the switch again, the "recent apps" function no longer working, or only very unreliably. I hope this helps some people here.
Nova launcher user here. Once all the animations are off I still have trouble with my p5a and p8. I think it is the phone cases exerting residual pressure on the touchscreen, because if I put them flat on a table top, or take the cases off, the problem goes away.
I can reproduce the issue 100% of the time on Lawnchair 14. If I am on the home screen, swipe up (although I'm already home it goes home again) and then bring up the app launcher, it shows the background/home screen or last app with the image of my wallpaper. This isn't a GOS issue though, happened on Stock just as often.
jet_silver Are you sure it's correlated?
Maybe we are about diffrent issues then?
