Hello!
I am planning to buy a brand new pixel 6 pro after lot of bad experience on 2hand market.
A can by it by cash, so i can minimize to give any trackable customer data.

To install GOS, i have to activate OEM unlock.
What are the mandatory steps to do oem unlock?
Do i have to insert or configure sim/e-sim? Do is have to login with a gmail account? Can i do it
without any identifiable activity?
I am not a superhero, or whistleblower, so my threat model is around a general-, "de-googling my life", minimal footprint level.

Than you!

I know, i know it. So only do i need is to connect to an open-, public wifi network some km far from my home.... that is it?
    thank you!

If you are "not a superhero" and your goal is "general de-googling my life", it is not clear why any cloak-and-dagger action is required.

Performing the "check-in" step via public Wi-Fi stops Google from associating your IMEI with your home address. OK, but then the phone will be wiped and apps installed under GrapheneOS -- even Google apps -- won't have access to your IMEI.

It might be productive to indicate what you hope to gain by going through the extra effort of OEM unlocking anonymously. As Dumdum pointed out, it is not a requirement for successfully installing GrapheneOS.

        thanks for warn!
as i know Google Guaranteed security updates until at least: October 2026. It is ok for me. I use minimal features. Some days running gos in security mode...
Now I have no budget for higher price 7 pro, and as i know 6p has more robust structure around the camera are.....now i prefer 6 pro.
        thank you

          Thanks your reply.

          Simple YES or NO.
I am expecting two tiny short words.
          Thank you!

a pixel 7 is not significantly more expensive than a pixel 6 right now (a quick search of my local online shops showed a difference of around 65€) and has more support lifetime left.
If your budget allows you should take a look.

true there is a bigger price difference, but honestly, I value support lifetime over the features of the pro models.

Another part I dont like about the pro models: they are bigger than the non-pro models. I have large hands but those pro models are too big for my taste, A couple days ago I saw the 8 and 8pro in a shop and tried holding both, the size of the 8pro was uncomfortable for me.

:) i have huge hands, and sometime time i use my 6pro for table tennis to... :)
ahh come on, be serious. really thanks your points.

I still prefer 6 p, but i am still not sure that:
Do i have to insert or configure sim/e-sim?
Do i have to login with a gmail account?

              piece! ;)

Can someone please explain why this would be a bad thing? And isn't the phone wiped from the beginning if it's a new phone?
