mmmm
There is very little out there for beginners coming from iOS, and its a monumental leap, not only trying escape the lock in, but even considering 'android' in the first place. <
Can confirm. I have put in almost 40 hours in the past week getting set up after moving from an iPhone 8 to a pixel 8, and that's after spending like... 40 hours a month for several months reading up on everything.
To be fair, I'm also trying hard to avoid google and keep to FOSS and non-KYC apps and services as much as I can, so I'm not exactly taking the easiest route. I could have just been happy with the added security and privacy of GOS alone and freely installed pretty much whatever in had on my iPhone with the google play store and been done with it by now. As it is... I feel like I'm a third, maaaaybe halfway done.
I'm not saying GOS needs to cater to dummies like me who are going straight from flaming dumpster practices and phones to an earnest attempt at GOS settings + app choice in accordance to an earnest attempt at threat modeling.
But it sure would be nice to have a "GOS for dummies," a "Migrating to Android for dummies; brought to you by the makers of GOS," and a "Migrating to FOSS for dummies; brought to you by the makers of GOS."
I trust GOS devs and other GOS affiliated folks. Their work speaks for itself, and actions speak so much louder than words. In contrast, there's probably thousands of privacy enthusiasts who think installing ghostery on Brave is worthwhile.
