I'm actively dealing now with dual-SIM (SIM+eSIM) settings in Pixel (and it's my 1st dual-sim experience ever).
It's a bit annoying and time consuming process, and I see lots of strange behaviour of eSIM, that established itself in a master role in the system (!), where it's impossible to switch eSIM off (not yet sure if it's not possible the other way than normal in SIM mgt panel), and other weird combinations between eSIM/SIM, SIMs/System, and othe unexplained (to me) behavior.

The systems, in general, often work in a very unexpected manner and the only reasonable way is to tweak and experiment, with different settings, multiple checking, restarts, on/off`s, changing order/sequence, etc. If you understand more or less what you're doing! ;)))
Worked well for me this time too, although I don't see it as a finished thing and am expecting to get issues during the full use of the phone in this configuration. But generally I'm impressed by how GOS manages that chaos :))) 5! *****

You may finally need, as you wrote, to consult something wit the carrier(s), as stated here: https://web.archive.org/web/20240316175213/https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/9449293?hl=en#zippy=%2Cstop-using-a-sim-card%2Cturn-off-a-sim-temporarily

GOOD LUCK.

And don't forget to share your findings, wich is usually very helphul for others sooner or later.

CircusAround hello, thank you so much for the info. Turns out my "calls preference" was set to my eSIM i just switched it to "ask every time" however i honestly don't even know what that exactly means. since my physical SIM is my work number and im off to work atm, i guess I'll find out if this setting fixed anything:)

Under settings> Network & internet> SIMs> Name of your SIM> Call preference and also under settings> Network & internet> SIMs> Name of your SIM> SMS preference you can set the SIM card that should be used by default.

Alternatively -as you have done- you can set "ask every time" for both, calls and SMS. Using this option you will be asked which SIM card you would like to use each time before making a call or sending an SMS.

Unfortunately, I can't offer a solution, but at least wanted to let you know that such problems with dual SIM are probably not the norm. I have several eSIM profiles and a physical SIM stored in a Pixel 8 Pro. I can use two SIMs at the same time and switching between the SIMs works flawlessly.

In my case it was the question of detailed configuration of both. Just at first moment, after full installation of eSIM and then adding back a phisical SIM from the 2nd carrier, there was an issue with preferential position of eSIM in the system, due to excessive permission scope self-granted by eSIM (it literally colonized the phone :)
After the proper set up, both SIMs work simultanously with no issue, each with its own config.
"Ask every time" function works fine, for calls and SMS.
I didn't tested yet incoming calls in possible combinations, but I hope it will work reasonably.
At the moment I'm very satisfied with the solution.

well I've tried i believe all of the settings i can find, nothing really seems to be causing the issue, so i took the physical SIM out, rebooted the phone, re did the settings and plugged it back in. idk if that was of any idea but i guess I'll figure it out soon enough

I'm sorry to say it but nothing actually worked. Unfortunately it does happen to my eSIM as well, i just get vastly less calls there so i didn't notice. So.... any ideas? It's definitely not the operators issue since it's happening to both of them

sorry for the multi-posting, but is there any kind of settings that are connected with battery saving/optimization and connectivity? might have switched smt on/off and to lead to this issue?

It seems to be a Pixel upstream issue - https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/264865035/pixel-7-pro-not-receiving-calls-after-march-2024-update

I'm having the same issue as well since mid-March. It's surprising that Google hasn't fixed this issue for almost a month. Especially given the amount of users that are seeing this issue

It seems I'm in the same boat on my pixel 8.

jagorom515 man thank you! i know it's not good news but i was honestly worried that i messed up my new phone! I'll just migrate my work number to a different phone for now and wait for the fix, you made my day!

            You're absolutely not alone :)
What use is a phone if it cannot be used as a phone?

I have a temporary fix that works. Not sure what exactly fixes it, but here's what my setup looks like:

            • Disable Wifi (do not connect to any wifi) and stay connected to Mobile Network
            • Enable Mobile Data
            • Enable Roaming
            • Enable VoLTE
            • Preferred Network Type - LTE only
            • Disable Wifi Calling(I'm sure folks have already done that)
            • Allow 2G

With this, I'm able to receive/make calls and SMS.
The only unfortunate thing is I'm stuck with using my 4G data instead of my Wifi.

I think the critical one for me was Disabling Wifi and connecting to Mobile Network. But I've shared my whole setup just in case. You can try it out and see if it helps. Otherwise, we just pray.
I'm genuinely surprised how this issue isn't Code Red for the Pixel devs. Should've been fixed Day 1 when this was triaged.

jagorom515 hey, thanks for the reply. Im good this fix works for you but unfortunately this is my default settings, i rarely ever use wifi and the rest I've set up since day 1. I also teies reverting back to original settings and redid these ones again, no luck. Still i kind of think that an official fix is on its way. As much as im not a fan of Google, i doubt they'll leave their flagship phones, phoneless

I have the same issue. Sometimes cannot receive calls, then when I call out using the unavailable number it gets "active" and after this i'm able to receive calls or sms on that number.

Have the problem on both the physical and esim with my pixel pro 8 which i did a clean install on last week.

I just enabled Allow 2G on both sims after reading this post, aswell as "ask every time" for the call and sms preference setting.
              Hope this gets resolved fast.

              4 days later

Hm i still have constant problems, people cannot reach me by phone on both sims, differrent providers. Outbound is never a problem

              a month later

Hello, i hate to ask this but has this issue been resolved for any of you from the latest updates? I'm running the one from 05.09. and still no luck with the calls

                a month later

                jagorom515

The issue persists and as far as I've been able to make out, graphene says it's an upstream issue but the issue isn't present on stock, lineage or cakyx. Only graphene. I can't use graphene as I need the phone to work reliably.

GeorgeSoros not really, more so they don't have the issue so it's put off to carrier or upstream issues and not a graphene issue yet, for me it only happens on graphene. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
