Tasker or IFTTT or ??

I'd really like to have a rules-engine mostly for toggling on/off data/location based on wifi or BT connectivity.

Both Tasker and IFTTT require Google Services - also I don't see any foss-based rules-engines.

So - what are thoughts on security related to Tasker or IFTTT, or best yet - is there a solution that doesn't require Google services?

panopticon yeah, unless I missing something easer doesn't work very well. Can't toggle mobile data and most other settings I try

With these two its possible to do what you want. I will likely write up something once I have mine working flawlessly.

Depending on your use case there is also MAXS:

It does automation too but via XMPP.

Coming from several years of LineageOS use, before switching to a Pixel to install Graphene OS. I must say that I really miss the "System Profile" functionnality. Switching all the connecrivity off/on and adjusting the sound level by pressing only one button was something I used a lot.
I was not using automatic switching between profiles but it was available.
I wish Graphene OS add this feature in future releases.
