Hello,
today in the morning the new update was installed successfully. Phone worked well for about 3h. I was switching to my second user as the Google stuff is installed there. Once it switched the phone died. Cannot do anything, pressing power button does not work, Power and Volume down does not work. Battery was at 85%.
Have you heard of this issues before? What can be done here?
Pixel 5a, bought in 2021, located in EU.
Thanks for your help.
Phone dead after update?
It sounds like a hardware issue, unfortunately.
I had a similar experience had to press the power button many tines and hold it for a minute each time and finally it turned on fine and no more issues. I'm wondering what the issue is because I know others had a similar problem as well. Could you by chance list out all of the apps you had installed on your phone? I'm wondering if there is a certain app that we all have downloaded causing this.

Internet search shows results for a dead motherboard in the phone, seems like a common issue.
Still, hoping there could be a software solution or workaround to get my phone working again.
GrapheneLover Is your phone still working fine?
For the 5a there seem to be dead motherboards as a problem.
Hopefully, with continously pressing the power button it comes back to live...
I don't think I have all memorized, but let's try: whatsapp, signal, some f-droid apps in the main profile. garmin, 2 banking apps in the second profile, where I have the Google-dependent stuff. It crashed after switching to the second profile though
User123456 I'm using a 7 Pro and had the same issue as you twice, one time was installing an app or updating it from F-Droid it caused the device to just freeze forever had to hold the power button down for a minute and then it was fine again and then the second time was after this latest update when I tried to power on the phone it didn't turn on had to press the button down around 50 times and hold it down and it finally worked.
GrapheneLover Thanks for your reply. Let's see if that works for me as well... Have tried it about just 15 times yet :D
User123456 I'm facing a similar issue.
Installed gOS successfully on pixel 8
Then clicked update.
Downloaded few apps from fdroid like telegram and Firefox browser.
Before I could install the apps the system notification asked me to reboot. Clicked reboot and the phone said restarting but then went black.
I've tried power button for short intervals, holding for 1 minute, no luck.
Phone was fully charged and to be safe has been put on charger again for few hours. No sign of life.
Would love to know if you got it fixed and how.
I probably tried to install too many apps from fDroid at once, maybe 5 apps. But they were just downloading and the system update finished first.
The apps didn't even get to be installed at the time I clicked reboot on the system update.
If anyone has any ideas how I can save my phone please let me know
Used the new phone for a total of one hour 😑
gos101 "I probably tried to install too many apps from fDroid at once, maybe 5 apps. But they were just downloading and the system update finished first.", that would have 0 effect on if your issue. It's not F-Droid
"Used the new phone for a total of one hour", contact Google Support and/or the support team of whoever you bought it from. If your phone only operated for an hour out of box then that's a hardware issue.
No way to save it, but it's also not your fault. It will most likely be covered by warranty (as in,a free repair/new device, yay!)
I bought it on Craigslist so no going back.
The phone was working just fine.
My friend got one at the same time and we both installed graphene together. It rebooted a few times during and after that which was fine for both of us.
After set up was done, the only thing he did differently was click reboot before trying to download 5 apps, I tried to install the apps from fdroid before the update finished.
The notification tray was full of the fdroid attempts to download and install when I pressed the reboot after system update.

gos101 I assure you, you bought a broken cellphone
F-Droid has nothing to do with your phones hardware failure, its the phones hardware
If the phone could boot into fastboot, then that would be a different story. If it cannot, then its 100% a hardware failure
I guess that's my luck. They were both brand new and sealed boxes. Everything inside was pristine untouched.
Never had this happen before so felt bad but I guess it is just a lemon.
Into the dustbin it goes ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
gos101 I'd honestly really suggest not buying from 3rd parties, anyone who can't give you warranty is not a good idea.
I bought directly from google myself
Didn't wanna buy with a CC or address so did in person option. Should've done best buy maybe

Sorry to hear that.
I had the issue with the Pixel 5a, there it was a dead processor (at least what a repair guy told me). Had to buy a new phone, namely the Pixel 8
User123456 thanks for the reply. I had to trash mine, spent too long trying to press the power button 😅
