  • Can i just update this experimental build to stable, once its released and continue using it without reinstalling? Is it fine to install and switch to stable or is it just an other name for stable because its just released? Or do i benefit in any way from waiting for the "final version"?

My p7 should arrive today :)

    • Foxah Pixel 7 support is a work in progress. Probably starting today. Google uploaded the AOSP source code supporting Pixel 7 some time last night (i.e., it wasn't uploaded when I went to bed, but appears to be now).

When its ready, you'll see some announcements in this forum. Pixel 6 took several weeks. Pixel 6a was near immediate due to the fact that its not much different. The Pixel 7 is more different, but hopefully not significantly enough to cause a major delay.

Cross your fingers that its an easy and fast device to support.

    • There will be GrapheneOS (GOS) builds for Pixel 7 / Pixel 7 Pro. The fundraising goal to purchase the phones for development/testing was met. Reportedly, GOS builds for P6 / P6 Pro were available over a month after the phones were released and this time turnaround is expected to be faster.

@MetropleX you MUST install ALL 3 packages if you wish to receive support for issues with sandboxed play services. The only package that can be installed without the other two is GSF to help with GCam as an example which doesn't require all of them.

Play Store IS NOT just a shop front, apps increasingly depend on Play Asset Delivery and Play Feature Delivery which require the official Play Store client instead of legacy OBBs which are deprecated and forbidden for new apps. Other Play Store services also require the official Play Store. Apps will increasingly depend on the Play Store for Asset/Feature delivery and other APIs.

      • Groetg Colvdv the best voice to text solution I can recommend is to use GBoard in tandem with our sandboxed google play services, after downloading GBoard select the Faster Voice Typing option that will download a voice model to your phone for offline use, then you can revoked GBoards network permission for a fully offline dictation option.

        • BringForthTheHolyWater Hello there!

How you set up user profiles on your device largely depending on your situation, the apps you use, your threat model, as well as your overall needs.

It is important to keep in mind that even if you were only utilize one profile (Owner), all of your apps are still sandboxed and isolated from one another. For most people, user profiles is not something that's even needed or desirable.

User profiles, however, do provide meaningful isolation beyond what the Android sandbox provides. It makes it so apps that could otherwise communicate via mutual consent (that is where both apps explicitly agree to talk to one another) can no longer do so.

It also makes it so you can isolate your data, in case you need to use an app that requires some permission that you wouldn't like to grant it, such as files/storage access or access to your contacts, for example.

You may also elect to install Sandboxed Google Play in one or some of your user profiles, instead of all of them.

What I'm getting at is that user profiles are a very powerful feature that GrapheneOS keeps improving and expanding on, but it may or may not make sense for you to utilize it. How you separate your apps/usage between profiles (if at all) is something that you'll have to evaluate on your end, based on your individual needs.

Edit: Regarding your question about calls and texts - You can make calls and texts from any user profile, as long as you've toggled that option on for that given profile. It's unlikely to matter which profile you make calls from, however I suppose that it would make the most sense to do it from the user profile that has your contacts stored (if not all of them do). It is important to note that user profiles that have calling and texting enabled also have access to your SMS and call history, so if that is a concern for a given profile, you shouldn't grant it that access.
