DAC: dragonfly red, Google USB C to 3,5mm
frickinchickin requires power pass through i.e. connect a usb-c power source to the dongle. have several of the same dongle and none will pass audio w/o power.
I can unplug the headphone while keeping the dongle connected, the music continues to play without being paused even though no headphone connected, and I can connect any headphone again to the dongle and the music has been playing all along.
tmp Interesting! Yep, that made it work. Unfortunately it shows as connected, but not charging -- but that's a separate issue I'm sure, Thanks for the heads up.
Device Tested: Pixel 7 Pro
DAC: Moondrop Dawn 3.5mm, Moondrop Dawn 4.4mm
Both work fine, no audio issues. Remains default output even with the jack unplugged.
Device: Pixel 6a
Tested Huawei, Fujitsu and Apple cables. Huawei didn't work, Fujitsu was cutting off sound every few minutes, but Apple works great. It was also the cheapest. No issues with volume.
Devices Tested: Pixel 4a, 7a
DAC Model: AK HC3 Dual DAC Cable - https://www.astellnkern.co.uk/hc3-dual-dac-cable.html
Plug and play. Behaves as expected with "allow new usb peripherals when unlocked" in that the DAC and headphones must be connected while unlocked and unplugging either halts playback and they are not recognised while locked.
Volume control works fine with or without the AK HC app and does not set to max on connection as warned in the manual.
Noticeable battery drain in use, but not just when plugged in.
Really broadens the soundstage and drives my V-moda m-100 masters hard. Loads of clarity and articulation. Strongly recommend.
Devices Tested: Pixel 8
DAC Model: Moondrop Dawn Pro
Result: Not working. Can faintly hear audio but constantly loud static through both 3.5mm and 4.4mm ports.
DAC Model: TempoTec Sonata HD PRO
Result: Working as expected.
DAC Model: Google USB-C to 3.5mm Adapter
Result: Working as expected.
Devices tested: Pixel 5, Pixel 7a
DAC Model: xDuoo Link
Result: Not working
Both 5 and 7a register that it is plugged in. Sound settings show wired headphones are available. A prompt message for Tidal is displayed letting the user know that calls may not be notified while using the device.
No sound plays.
Some apps freeze when trying to play video.
Newpipe even froze the phone and needed to be reset.
Audible pop can be heard when plugging in and out through the headphones.
Devices tested: Pixel 6a
DAC Model: Fiio BTR3K
Result: Both Bluetooth and USB working fine
The only annoying thing with LDAC bt codec is you have to manually switch it to HiRes mode in developer settings and it goes back to Best Effort mode each time device connects but that is the same for stock android I think
Devices tested: Pixel 4a, Pixel 6a
DAC Model: Gentronix something, can't find it, Amazon
Result: Not working, but it did
This is really strange. It worked normally on my 4a, and then I plugged it in again and it stopped.
May this be something with data transfer allowed? It does not show up as headphone but as usb device, I cannot control the connection from the device.
The dongle works totally fine from my laptop (Fedora Linux, modern Kernel etc.)
update: confirmed working after some time.
Result: working very well but after quite some delay and with weird not being recognized. Works on all devices
I am using "Vanilla Music" which has a "only play over external speakers" mode, so preventing cringe playing from internal ones. But it took many seconds to even recognize the headphones?
This xxxx forum software doesnt let me edit the post a third time
DAC Model: Gentronix 7426769172124 (Ebay)
Update 2: the converter only works on my digital headphones. A pair that required analog input did not work. (While the apple one did)
Also note: the DAC disconnects randomly. Setting "Allow new USB devices" fixes this. (Why does GrapheneOS not remember the device?)
But the sound quality is perfect for me.
Devices tested: Pixel 6a
DAC Model: Hama 00200318 "USB-C Audio Adapter"
Result: complete garbage. The sound is completely distorted, especially the Bass. The build quality is also cheap, thick cable without fiber or anything, bad on the port.
The Seller (quote: "wholy fuck!") took it back immediately ;D
Devices tested: Pixel 7a
DAC Model: Ugreen 20194
Plug and play
