DrJack60 It also would be helpful to be able to rename the line to 'personal' & 'work' instead of BOTH simply saying 'Verizon'. One is in BLUE, one in GREEN, but that is not a good way to do it.

It is possible to rename SIMs. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs, and tap the pen 🖊️ icon in the top right hand corner of the screen.

treequell Ahhh, I went through everything but did NOT see the option there! That helps, a little. But it doesn't answer why it isn't actually accepting input to select one or the other for SMS.

As I look around online, the assigning of contacts to a particular SIM is listed as an Android feature, so apparently it is something that is removed in GoS. Renaming does help with identification; still cannot get the SMS app (standard one we all have) to actually work when I select "Ask every time". I am curious if others running dual SIMS would see if your install does the same thing if you choose this option.

No problems with "ask" here, works.
Merely cumbersome, particularly with using BT calling while driving - have to unlock phone and choose - as mentioned above.

d4f2 For phone, yes. But not for SMS, at least on my P7. Are you able to select & send text? Mine does nothing more than display both with long push. I'll go to Matrix & ask.

Follow-up: after selecting one of the other SIM & sending a message, suddenly on each thread it now has the proper acct noted in the reply area. It doesn't even ask for a selection, it is already attached. I can find no explanation but I am VERY pleased! What's interesting is that if I set it for "ask every time" neither works. But having selected a preference, it still defaults to the previously used acct. So there is still a bug, but it is trivial as it only requires selecting an acct one time then remembers which one to use 🤔

Bringing up old conversation, I know, however the title of this subject is perfect for my question and yet I do not see a solution. As the original post mentioned, "Maybe it is well hidden - did not find it."

Here is my scenario and I also can not find a solution:
I have a hard sim card (my main phone number I use 95% of the time)
I have an esim I use for the other 5%

I see not way to dial out based on the number you want to use. I am finding that I must first dial out on my default preference, then (as quick as humanly possibly) click "change sim".

GOD this sucks!.
1) I am hoping I click the button quick enough that my main number is not leaked
2) I am hoping I REMEMBER to do this in the first place.

Was hoping to find the ability where I can choose a contact, then somewhere inside the contact choose a "default sim to call out on" feature? Did I miss this? Was it already implemented because I cant find it.

The workaround mentioned by N1b doesn't work for you?

If you select Settings> Network & Internet> Calls &SMS> Calls> ask every time, you will be asked which SIM you want to use each time before the call is established. The call is only established after you have made your selection.

An additional protection against leaking your phone number: For contacts who should not see your number under any circumstances, you could add the corresponding GSM code to their numbers in your phone book (depends on your home country, e.g. #31# or *67 - it is best to test it beforehand).

graphite-or-graphene I am using app called ACR Phone. You can assign SIM for a contact, it works. I paid them to get rid of ads. 5e is well deserved. My usage is the same - majority sim 1, sim 2 only sometimes, when i have to call back somebody from the office. I definitely dont want to disclose my personal number.

I have no info about the developers (whether they are 'good people' or somehow misuse my data).

andrej567 I installed the app as well, but I can't find the option to assign a SIM per contact. Where were you able to set this up?

Thanks for the advice. I installed ACR phone and I can assign a specific Sim card to a contact like as required.

About privacy of user data, I hope Google checks an app's source code before publishing the app on Google play. I used to publish apps in Nokia store, and Nokia scrutinized source code before publishing.

Today operators of app stores like Apple's „App Store” and Google's „Play” (crazy name, BTW) check about danger for their platform, only.

The main thing is that money can be earned with an app and that it does not damage either the company's own platform or the reputation of the app store.
Whether the buyer is cheated or not plays a subordinate role.

If this wasn't the case, hundreds of torch apps or call filter apps wouldn't even exist because they either don't work at all or have unwanted additional functions.

fraphene it stopped working reliably, not sure when. when you go to contact detail within the acr app, and long press the phone number, a small menu appears to choose a simcard. but... it does not remember the simcard. or it does and on phone restart? or contact sync? the settings are gone. i am looking for replacement. Also the app complains when you use it not in main profile. its a pity because it worked good in the past.

The fossify phone app has the option to to always pick the same SIM for a contact. Currently, I have "always ask" in the general settings applied and manual assign the correct SIM once in the fossify phone app.
