Trebuchet
Hi Trebuchet,
It was similar for me, but in recent years I always used the latest iPhone top model.
Because Apple sells our customer data just like Google and others, I had then thoroughly informed myself about more privacy-friendly operating systems and there was only one choice: GrapheneOS and therefore also the Pixel 7 Pro – with a comparatively (!) low performance processor and therefore the danger of overheating.
But my practical experience since buying it in March 2023 has been positive:
Since I don't use any games and don't use a case that could cause heat build-up when charging or in high summer temperatures, the Pixel 7 Pro never gets hot.
I don't use true fast charging either, but charge the battery using the USB cable on the MacBook Air, which doesn't charge the battery in the Pixel 7 Pro slowly, but not too quickly either.
The highest temperature during charging (with simultaneous streaming of TV shows) is 40 °C there.
Without streaming while charging, the temperature remains at max. 38 °C.
And a few words about the comparatively underpowered processor:
Apple had to develop a much more powerful processor to achieve the goal of client-side scanning of images and documents without clients noticing or being disturbed by it.
Now their processors are really the world's very fastest effective in this area.
In comparison, Samsung's processors are lame slugs.
But does that bother us, who love data protection and privacy and do not activate the spying and tracker functions thanks to GOS?
– No! And for normal use, an Exynos processor aka Google Tensor G2 is super fast and completely sufficient. And it doesn't get too hot. :-)
