  • @N1b this is what I ended up doing after trying all the different calendars including proton with a premium plan. It seemed very intimidating at first but was ultimately not a big deal in the end. Now I use nextcloud for everything (contacts, calendar, photos, cloud storage, etc)

There are privacy focused cloud servers you can use but I just bought a $50 mini PC off eBay and it's been working flawlessly.

    • From my limited understanding, the Google Protection Program doesn't work on GoS and instead requires stock OS but I could be wrong on this.

      • With my use case and the device I have, I have NEVER felt that my device was too hot, overheating, or anything like that. Literally one time since I had this device, I did notice that the battery was draining exceptionally quick, but a simple reboot fixed it and it's never happened again.

I've had mine for about 6 months now (brand new Pixel 7 Pro from Google, GOS from day 1). I use anywhere from 1 to 8 hrs screen time depending on what's going on that day, but probably average about 4. My screen is always set to 60hz. I keep my phone in a black Spigen Tough armor case with a screen protector. I don't often use my phone while it's charging but I do occasionally. My phone is always in battery saver mode and almost all the apps I use are PWAs (progressive web apps). I ended just days with 40-60% battery which is on par with what I was getting with most of my Samsung devices.

I came from about 10 years of loyal Samsung usage with the S21 Ultra being my latest. Overall, I'm VERY pleased with the switch. There are a few minor gripes that I have (don't like Google's swipe navigation, quick tiles aren't as nice as Samsung, etc), but they're minor and don't bother me nearly as much as they used to.

I now recommend this phone to almost everyone. I can't speak to the experience running the stock OS but the benefits that come from GOS make any minor rubs insignificant.

      • Does anyone know of a more elegant way of doing this? I'd like to achieve the same thing, install apps on a second profile and then "push" them to either the main profile or a different profile.

        • I know, it's been talked about before and I've read countless posts about it, but thought I'd ask.

I'm coming from an S21 Ultra. I love the phone but as a healthcare provider, I need more private means of communicating with patients and other providers, researching, etc. and have heard too many horror stories of Google or Samsung making life miserable for others in my field. I've already personally ran into a few concerning issues. This all has lead me to where I am now, wanting to privatize my life and make the switch to GOS.

I can currently get a 6 Pro for about half the cost of a 7 Pro, significant enough to make me think about it. But I've read enough on here and other places to make me worried about getting a 6 Pro and having overheating/battery issues. Is it really that common? How long after setting up the phone would I know I've got a dud?

I know it seems 5G is a common culprit for the 6 Pro issues, but I really heavily on it due to it having better penetration in hospitals, rural areas, etc.

Also, I assume the privacy/security would be the same between the two but correct me if I'm wrong on this.

I am very new to a lot of this but am willing to take the time to learn it. Thank you all for your input and especially thanks to the GOS team and all that they do.

          • Forgive me if this has been discussed, but I couldn't find anything while searching.

We use several Samsung SmartTags to track various things around the house/property. They never leave the property but they are extremely convenient for locating certain items that have been misplaced, fell off the tractor in the woods, out of a pocket, etc.

From my understanding, these only work with Samsung phones. Anyone know of any workaround? If not, any suggestions for a replacement tracker? Based on YouTube reviews/comparisons, Tile seems very unreliable at best.

I know this may not be the best platform to ask this question, but thought I'd give it a shot as I appreciate responses from more privacy focused individuals.

Thanks for any insight on this, I am noob

Edit: I'm planning on switching to GOS, this is the reason I'm looking for a solution
