Android 13 native exFAT feedback

The upstream exFAT driver is used so older kernels can't support it, that's why it's only working for 6th generation Pixel devices (and future devices). Android 13 finally added userspace tools to make that work.

Now that GrapheneOS has been ported to AOSP 13, how's your experience with exFAT? Does that work for you? Sadly, none of my two exFAT hard drives seem supported. They were formatted in macOS so I'm especially interested to hear from users with exFAT drives formatted by macOS.

Feel free to share your experience with native exFAT support nonetheless!

ExFAT works fine for me with the MacBook Air (M1, 2020), macOS 12.5.1 & Pixel 6, GOS: TP1A.220624.021.2022082400.

Have erased / formatted an old USB A stick connected via UGREEN hub to ExFAT with macOS' tool called "Disk Utility", have created a random 5 GiB file with dd on it and created a MD5sum of it.
The Pixel 6 didn't like the hub so I've searched my cable box and found a very cheap USB A to C adapter and it finally worked. I have copied the 5 GiB file to the Pixel 6 and checked the MD5sum with termux: Sum's the same. Then I've copied just a screenshot to the stick (to see if I can write to it) and it worked fine as well. I've connected the stick to the MacBook again and apparently that device does not like the cheap USB adapter. But with the hub I could finally see the picture.

So yes, besides the horrible usb hardware fuss, it worked fine.

Any chance you could try with a more powerful USB hard drive? I'll see if I have a USB stick lying around.

Just tried with a SD card I freshly formatted in exFAT from Windows and it works as intended, so at least I know exFAT "works". Now the question is, why are my hard drives unsupported... and yet are working everywhere else.

Wonderfall I assume it's a power issue. Have you tried formatting the same drives with FAT32 to check?

I had a similar problem with one of my drive when attempting to connect it to my Pixel. I just found the reason of the issue and fixed it. I explained it in the dedicated topic.

Right now I don't have any empty USB hard drives, sorry.
In case you have free space left on your drives you could shrink the existing partition and create a clean partition with macOS' exFAT. But I don't know if Apple's tools are able of this.

I would love to have it as it would allow me to make a backup of photos from my camera on the go. Unfortunately camera only works with exFAT formated sdcards.

wKeyNFQPQ6P8DwK I've been using exFAT on an NVMe drive in an enclosure for a while now with 0 issues, so it should be working for you, too.
