  • Seeking Advice with Repairing a Pixel Device

Hey everyone,

I find myself in a bit of a predicament and I could really use some guidance. Have any of you had the experience of getting a repair done on your Pixel device while running GrapheneOS? If so, I would greatly appreciate it if you could share your insights and experiences with me.

Firstly, I'm curious about the warranty aspect. Did you face any challenges with the repair process in terms of the warranty coverage? I've heard mixed opinions about whether or not using GrapheneOS affects the warranty, so I'm a bit hesitant about sending my device in for repairs.

Secondly, I'm interested in hearing about your overall experience with the repair process. How was the communication with the repair center? Did they understand the nuances of GrapheneOS and were they able to handle the repair effectively? I'm particularly concerned about potential complications that might arise due to the operating system?

Additionally, if any of you have encountered specific issues with your Pixel device while running GrapheneOS and had them successfully resolved through the repair process, I would love to hear about it. It would give me some peace of mind to know that there are professionals out there who are capable of handling repairs on devices with a alternative operating system.

Lastly, I would like to know if any of you have any tips or recommendations regarding the repair process for a Pixel running GrapheneOS. Are there any specific steps or precautions I should take before sending my device in? Any advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I apologize for bombarding you with questions, but I'm planning to send in my device for repairs as the display on my Pixel 6a is cracked, and I believe your experiences can provide valuable insights that will help me make an informed decision. Thank you in advance for taking the time to share your thoughts and experiences. I'm looking forward to hearing from you!

esceashi Hi there, a cracked screen is not covered under warranty, at least not here in the UK. That's irrespective of whether you have stock Android or GrapheneOS installed.

An official Google repair store will usually ask you to factory reset your device, or will likely do it after receiving the phone. So if you choose to get it repaired that way, make sure you backup your phone first.

treequell Maybe OP is worried the repair shop notice he have altered the operating system and therefor voids the warranty and blacklists the device for further warranty claims, even if the repair as such is not covered under warranty.

If it is a third-party phone repair shop you don't need to bother, they will most likely not snitch on you. If it is Google official repair shop you can always backup your device, reinstall stock OS and then leave it for repair. There is how-to's on the website on how to do that.

It's important to note that warranty coverage can vary depending on the shop or repair center you purchased your device from. I recommend reaching out to them directly or checking their website for specific information on warranty coverage for devices running alternative operating systems like GrapheneOS.

As for the repair process, communicate with the repair center about your operating system and ask about their experience in handling repairs on devices with alternative operating systems.

Before sending your device in, I recommend you to back up your data, and remove any personal or sensitive information, and securely package your device. For accurate information and guidance, contact the shop or repair center where you purchased your device.
