Insufficient for Emergency
Depending on where you're currently residing and the jurisdiction in that country that probably would come down to homicide or murder. So if touching your device, regardless of the motion be it shaking or merely touching, might get you killed isn't the auto reboot timer just the tool you want? 10 min is barely enough to brute force your device. Taking into account that a few minutes may have passed since your last unlock, it would be even less.
Phead i did not say somebody wants to kill me for using my phone. i just want to be able to turn off or restart quickly/ without a display.
30 seconds power button press wtf?!
even if it's not an emergency.
it isnt even sufficient for restarting the device when having blackscreen, which is a common issue when using video players on grapheneos.
(couldnt find the thread unfortunately, but the fix is to enable screen activation on pickup)
who expects to hold the button 30 seconds?
whom does it help?
i've never seen something like this on my past phones.

This action is standard on most phones. It's the same with computers. If you hold the power button for a certain amount of time it will hard restart or shutdown completely. It's very useful when the OS has crashed, for example.
It does not take 30 secs. I hold my power button for 1 second and then press lockdown or restart. Takes a total 2 seconds for me for the phone to restart.
If that's not enough. Stop using a phone for whatever someone is trying to kill you for.
Can I recommend using a note pad, pencil and a secret code then?
It sounds like in your extreme case, the only way to win is not to play.

Well, you could start to work on a feature request for something similar to Apple's emergency ... thingy (press 5 times the Power button to enter emergency mode). So, in your case this feature would be configured to restart/power off your phone whilst being in your pocket. As long as your expectations are clearly expressed maybe you and the devs eventually enter a fruitful discussion about this topic. Or you come up with other solutions.
But, since you and someone else mentioned that fiddling with your phone while being in difficult situation could be dangerous, I do not think that having your hand in your pocket while talking to/facing law enforcement is a good idea.

It seems that this fellow vvf69107 is experiencing difficulties with his smartphone display, and is looking for assistance in turning off the device. However, he lacks a functional display, which creates a bit of a challenge. To clarify, some members of this community believe that he has a working display, but this is not the case.
In my personal opinion, I find it quite impractical that one needs to hold down the power button for 30 seconds in order to power off the device. It seems like an unnecessarily long time that could cause frustration for users without a functioning display. Perhaps there could be an alternative solution that would make the process more efficient and user-friendly?
[deleted] finally someone who understands me!
to clarify again:
my screen is working, but there is a bug with video players where you can get a blackscreen really often and this is how i discovered the 30 seconds button press. (at first i thought the phone was dead)
in any situation this is a ridiculus amount of time to press the button and wait..
Phead it's already been mentioned on github and i dont know what to explain more about it.
i'd propose 2-3 seconds button press until shutdown or a setting...

I might be missed something in that thread, but where did you find/assume the 30 sec. power button press is intended to be for an emergency? I see it as an option due to an unresponsive phone/device with a sealed battery.
Sorry, I do not mean to put more fire in that discussion.
The behaviour you desire is too niche to be implemented by the OS devs. They would need to spend a lot of time making a lot of options.
You want custom automation. I prefer Tasker for this kind of thing. You can program gestures and long press of volume keys (not reliable with screen off).
My approach is a tasker automation that counts incorrect PIN/Password attempts and runs a task (like reboot after X attempts). For me, this is better than just throttling attempts. You can also create a decoy app icon (say crypto wallet) on your home screen that reboots the phone (useful if you're mostly worried about being robbed by someone snatching the phone faster than you can lock it).
There is also a Shake trigger which can be combined with being on the lockscreen. And you can geofence it so it only happens when away from home/work.
Lots of options for you.

I know that the 30 seconds are not made up for security and relying on a button is not an option.
I just don't see a reason why someone should wait this long to restart. there is no benefit right?
in some situations it's an advantange even in terms of security. which of course doesnt mean it should be the whole concept on how to protect you data.
DeletedUser115 I agree evalda. it should be easier to delete a user profile
Is there a way to contact you? I have read you are working with people on the encro case. I am "kind of" doing the same and I thought maybe we can help each other out.
Let me know if its possible. My email is therealbunnygame@proton.me. I hope to hear from you.
