  • Play Store update notification doesn't open app

I have Play Store set not to do automatic updates. So instead it provides a notification when updates are available. In stock Android, when you click on this notification, it opens the Play Store app to the list of apps with updates.

But in GrapheneOS, when I click on the update, the notification just disappears and nothing else happens. Then I have to manually open the app and navigate to the update page to update. There is also a link in the notification to update all apps, which does work, but it still doesn't open the Play Store app and show the update process. It just updates the apps in the background.

Is it possible to get this to behave as it does in stock Android? I'd like to click on the notification and have it open the Play Store to the update screen, so I can see what apps have available updates first, before updating them.

If it's relevant, other apps, like Droid-ify and Obtanium, work in the way one would expect. You click on the update notification and it opens to app to show you a list of available updates.

If my thought process is okay, notification is formatted by firebase backend and has nothing to do with Graphene so not much can be done about that.

[deleted] Thanks for the reply. Why would it be different and work properly with Droid-ify and Obtanium then?

I'm also curious if other people have this issue, or not, with the Play Store app.

I wonder if capturing a bug report (which includes a log) might reveal something actionable by the Google compatibility shim developers?

de0u That's a good suggestion. I'm still trying to figure out what's going on. It seems to behave differently each time. I can't tell if where/how I touch the notification effects what it does. And for the first time yesterday, I touched the notification for updates from Play Store and then the Google Services Framework app produced a notification saying it needs to display a screen, which when I touched that, it took me to the update page in the Play Store. I thought maybe there was some permisson with Google Services Framework that would solve the issue, but couldn't figure out anything on that front.

I guess I dropped the ball on this. What actually happens is that when Google Play displays a notification that there are updates and I click on it, most of the time, but not always, the GmsCompat app then displays a notification that says, "Google Play needs to show a screen," and then if I click on that, it takes me to the update screen in Google Play. Althought it's glitchy and sometimes the notification is just dismissed and nothing else happens.
