  • Textra Messaging App: Pulls up Play Store on launch

I downloaded the Textra messaging app from the Aurora Store to my 6 Pro. When I launch the app, the sign-in page for the Play Store comes up every time. Why does this happen and what can I do to fix it, if anything. I don't want to sign into GPS.

I believe it's directly tied to the play store unfortunately. I reached out to them and asked if past installation it would work with out Google play services. They did say that yes it should function with out those.

It seems the initial verification and setup of the app may require Google play services. Have you tried to download just the APK from a reputable source and see if it works.

Critter Mate, what does this app have that it makes it better than QKSMS? It is riddled with trackers. I mean it is your choice but I personally would stay away from it.

      Critter
This is because that app is checking the app installation source and want you to install it only from google play store, you can check this discussion its having the commands to spoof the app installation source.
and every time the app have an update you need to do the same steps, if possible avoid using these kind of apps.

[deleted] As long as you pay for pro textra is a pretty solid app. They do have a independent security review as well. As far as apps go for sms on the play store they do a lot of things right.

I also agree about using QKSMS. I was skeptical of that app because the lack of updates, but it got updated in January. Been using and have had no issues thus far.

I have no idea what Textra has that makes it better than QKSMS because I've never even heard of QKSMS. Have you used Textra and do you know the differences? Textra has many features I like, but maybe QKSMS has them also and has less trackers.

Thanks for this. I'm going to give QKSMS a test run, but the info you provided may help in the future.

        Have a good day.

Actually just reached out to the developer this week to try and resolve an issue regarding play integrity at their app. (email logs on request)
Turns out this developer has absolutely no intention whatsoever to bake in hardware attestation.,, furthermore, after I provided all the relevant documents and links to point out What could potentially be causing an issue with his app, he got very Irritated.

Without even reading anything, he continually insisted that GoS is to blame for the app not working. It's insecure, it's "modded or compromised" Not him or the way his app is coded. It quite literally Made me want To stop using the app and get a refund. I have no interest in wanting to use somebody's app who is that ignorant and unwilling to try and fix their service, especially considering that I literally told them that this app is recommended here, unofficially, but I guess I'll just come to the forum and let everybody know to go to something else, like QKSMS.

At least QKSMS isn't ABSURDLY RIDDLED WITH TRACKERS. CLOSE TO 125 of them.

        11 days later

I saw someone say qksms was updated in January. Does anyone know where the updated version is? When I look at the github i still see last updated in 2021. I had a ton of issues with MMS with qksms in the last which made me switch over to something else.

Deverox replying to myself in case anyone else came across this. The front page of the githib page showed newest version of 3.9.4 but if you go into the release page the newest version was listed. 3.10.1. Testing it out now.
