  • Disable removing permissions for unused apps.

  • [deleted]

I installed GrapheneOS on my mother's phone, but she is not very tech-savvy. I installed all the apps she needs and granted them permissions which are required for their work. I'm afraid if she doesn't use an app for a long enough time for it to become unused and then opens it, she might accidentally grant it permissions, which would be better turned off for her privacy. Is there a way to disable this feature for all apps?

MetropleX Yeah, but it's enabled by default and there is no global switch, which I should have clarified. Changing it for all of all the apps(including some system ones) is tiresome and if you install new apps, you gotta remember changing it. For example too many apps, which can't possibly ever need sensors permission still ask for it

[deleted] that is true but the removal of unused permissions is a security plus even if it might be a convenience negative for this specified use case. As GrapheneOS is a security focused OS it makes sense for the default behaviour to remain so.

The only alternative and solution for this sort of thing would be to use a third party application and the only ones I know of require things such as root or adb over network and the network permission to function which goes against the security model.

If you feel that the option might be useful though and wish to request it you can add it to the issue tracker.

[deleted] yes but just understand that with a small dev team, Android 13 and features likely having a higher priority listing it there won't mean a short term fix or one at all necessarily, it could however allow for a prospective contributor to see it too and possibly help implementing it.
