  • AOSP keyboard does not offer suggestions

[deleted]
Yep. Just tried uninstalling the other keboard. Getting no suggestions as I thought. Only my personals. Also having extra languages such as english installed with no suggestions.

I have no clue what to do.
Do it work for you other guys?
Did not change anything in that department after clean install

Tested a bit more. Looks like it only works in the larger languages. So no support in danish and likewise smaller langaugues on stock os keyboard.
Guess the only solution is to install another keyboard.

Not GOS' fault, i think this alone releate to the standard keyboard.

If anyone find out anything else, do tell.

I prefer OpenBoard. It's opensource, has no telemetry and good amount of customization options. And I think it supports word suggestions for Danish and the other Scandinavian .

trilogy6202 yes it does and will prob. be my alternative, if otherwise not possible on stock

Mark as solved, caus there is no solution for this if one use a non-standard langague. Openboard would be my suggestion

What do you mean "non-standard" language? Just because some keyboard does not include a dictionary for some languages, it doesn't make them less standard. My language (Catalan) is official in Catalonia, and standardized by the Institut d'Estudis Catalans.

I have tried AOSP, OpenBoard and GBoard. I don't get word suggestions for Catalan.
I'm surprised that GBoard doesn't work, since it did in my old phone with stock android 7.

Under system settings, you can select a given supported language or select the current. This gives a fals positive that all languages are supported
This though is supported if you install openboard or gboard. But it only works if you also enable it in system settings

You can use the Microsoft SwiftKey Keyboard with no permission for internet.

It has word suggestion for Catalan.

If you have no other microsoft apps in your phone, there should be no risk of data leak to microsoft servers.

      Hi,
I use as few apps as possible and always try to use pre-installed apps.
I've also tested Google's keyboard under GrapheneOS before.

My experience with the pre-installed keyboard in GOS:
Assuming everything is configured correctly, word suggestions and corrections work quite well.
Incorrect suggestions and corrections always happen, but the keyboard learns from you!

So you need to use the keyboard as often as possible and initially look carefully at what is suggested to you as the next word and tap on it when you see, the right one is one of the suggestions.
This way, the algorithm knows that the suggestion was good and remembers it for the next time!
The more often a term is used, the faster the keyboard learns your vocabulary.
Sometimes the algorithm only realises that a word or phrase is your favourite after it has been used several times. So don't lose patience straight away ...
Even if the database for Danish were empty - your used vocabulary fills the database or the algorithm uses your preferences and it works really well over time.

I initially had problems with suggestions and spelling correction for the second language (English).
This was due to my not yet perfect configuration.
Since I have set everything (!) correctly in the GOS keyboard settings, it works perfectly.

The word suggestions for the foreign language (for me: English) are particularly useful, as I only have to type the beginning of complicated words slowly and then see that I have thought of the right word and only have to tap on it.

My personal tip: Don't give up too early! Give the AOSP keyboard a chance – it's worth it!

      P. S.: If you prefer another keyboard – my tip matches actually to all keyboards, every keyboard algorithm first has to learn your preferred words to support you perfectly. ;-)

Have you checked out the FUTO keyboard?

      https://keyboard.futo.org/

It's currently in alpha, but it works really well, and has predictions in all languages that have a supported dictionary ( Danish is supported )

It does not have any permissions (not even network). And it has a locally run speech-to-text STT (that currently only works in English).
