@qaio1 Your replies are inaccurate and contain major violations of the rules for our community.
ARMv8 was built as a clean architecture and instruction set rather than carrying over the legacy from ARMv7 and earlier. It's drastically cleaner and more modern than x86_64 and even RISC-V.
Your claims about how ARM compared to x86 in regards to openness are highly inaccurate. Your claim that you've never seen an open source ARM late stage boot firmware is very strange considering that Chromebooks and even the standard Snapdragon platform have provided it for years. x86 early stage boot firmware and many of the components used later on are closed source regardless of whether someone is running an open source late stage boot chain primarily handling loading certain late stage firmware and the OS.
The claims you've made to promote Purism's devices are extraordinarily inaccurate and based on the massive amounts of extremely false marketing from the company. Their laptops are nearly fully closed source hardware and firmware. The late stage boot chain being based on coreboot doesn't mean they have open source firmware. That's a tiny portion of the overall firmware. They have a closed source early boot chain, load a bunch of closed source firmware for the CPU later on and have a ton of other closed source firmware for the overall SoC.
Your claim that Intel ME is the only closed source component is extremely inaccurate and doesn't reflect reality at all. Purism also stopped disabling Intel ME in the way they were previously doing many years ago. The overall SoC including the CPU is entirely closed source with lots of closed source firmware beyond Intel ME regardless. The other hardware components are also closed source hardware with closed source firmware. It's not only the CPU, GPU and the rest of what's on the SoC but also the radios, SSD, memory, many motherboard components and nearly everything else used in the device which is closed source hardware with closed source firmware.
It doesn't stop being closed source firmware because it's not being updated or able to be updated despite how Purism puts so much effort into misleading people about this.
Purism's products are highly insecure due to lack of crucial standard updates. They also lack standard security features available elsewhere. It isn't in any way limited to their phone. Their phone is much worse than their laptops and far further behind the rest of the industry, but their laptops are insecure products far worse than many mainstream devices too. The gap isn't nearly as large as it is with phones because a lot of phones have far more secure hardware, firmware and software than any traditional laptops. No one should use a laptop where they're not going to be getting crucial security updates for the firmware along with the company selling it discouraging people from getting those updates and heavily misleading them about it.
Purism's products are blatant scams and the massive amount of misinformation they spread to promote their products has caused immense harm to actual privacy, security and open hardware projects. Their products provide none of those things. Anyone who falls for the false marketing you're spreading about those products and purchases them will end up with highly insecure devices not doing the bare minimum for security. It will also fund further misinformation causing harm beyond to only an individual fooled into buying their products. Promoting scams on our forum isn't allowed and will result in moderation actions.
