As far as privacy / security is concerned, is there any difference between buying a new pixel or a used pixel, assuming you flash GOS on it? Is there any chance of there being malware on the used one that survives the install of GOS?

[deleted] Used is perfectly safe as far as operating system and so-on is concerned. The risks of used are more in terms of network identification -- if the phone is stolen, it could be blacklisted. If it has been used for crimes, it may possibly be identifiable, which although it won't stick to you, could require that you prove date of purchase to law enforcement.
intelligence I hadn't considered those aspects, thank you. It definitely makes me lean more toward buying new as I don't want to deal with any of that mess.
