With Google making a walled garden of Android by making friction to install arbitrary apps, there's even less reason to buy another regular Android device.

I already have Thinkpads, will like Motorola. The reason I bought a Pixel is because of GOS, so I'll just get the Motorola. Hopefully photos will be better than Pixel, because my 10a photos are terribly bad, even with Gcam.

I suspect that's true, but it might take a very long time to play out, since Pixel 10a devices have an expected EOL date of March 2033, unless Google somehow makes it infeasible for the GrapheneOS project to continue supporting them for that long. I think the "voting" aspect is more about whether GrapheneOS users buy the first available Motorola partner device, even though many of them won't absolutely need a new device at that point.

de0u I only buy a smartphone when I really need it, not being a new device every half-year fanboy :) I won't afford a Motorola Mobility (I prefer Motorola Solutions devices better) flagship phone either, so the choice is pretty clear.

I hope that 11a will be supported since my 6a shall reach EOL. I wouldn't voluntarily spend 1,000 € for a phone. I'll see when time comes. Anyway I agree that Motorola's strategy is probably to sell high security devices to businesses. If that works, it might open high volumes to GrapheneOS.

Honestly Nokia 6 was so sturdy and nice to have in my hand.
Possibly one of the best smartphone I had in terms of how material felt.
Also camera was decent for that time, even if I do not use it that much.

It's not clear what Google wanted to achieve, but they did cause Motorola to reach out to us and form a partnership with us. We still plan to support 11th gen Pixels but we're going to become increasingly less interested in Pixels and may stop supporting new Pixels eventually

That is of course if these generation is going to have the bootloader unlocked, I think it'll be unlocked, but, anything can happen.

DeletedUser1111 Can verify that the Pixel 11 series lets you enable OEM unlock in developer settings, so shouldn't be an issue.

Carrousel7956 Yes, have had it for a while and can directly verify both that the OEM unlock setting can be enabled and that the actual unlock process itself functions too in fastboot.

I can also verify that the entire OEM unlock process works as expected on the US version of the 11 series purchased directly from the Google Store.

Pixel 11 Pro should be supported, I've already unlocked BL, asked for kernel sourcecode and received tarball 2hours after asking.
