I don't have a Pixel phone but maybe in the future as GOS really seems nice. I have no idea if these features is already available or not and if not then I would like to request it.

Request:

  1. Set 2 passwords. 1 used for unlocking the phone. 1 password that takes you to a special "safe" profile that you could put random stuff that can't get you in trouble like VeraCrypt with "hidden" container.

  2. Set 2 passwords. 1 used for unlocking the phone. 1 password that wipes the phone completely when entered. It could be useful if you have to give up your password.

Btw, can you set individually password for each profile or the main profile password is used to unlock other profiles?

Each profile uses a different password, even a set of different fingerprints if you choose.

Not what you are asking but you can set your main profile (the one that’s always on) as a “safe” one and enter your secondary profile with a password that has all your personal sensitive stuff when needed.

You could delete that sensitive profile at any time.

There are apps that wipes certain data when triggered but I haven’t experimented with those. But I don’t think there is one that fully deletes a profile.

A pin code to erase the phone is planned (by removing the encryption keys I guess ?)

I agree, would be nice to have such a lockscreen feature.
More generally, it would be nice to have the lock screen automatically switch to the profile that corresponds to the passcode entered (in case different profiles have different passcodes).

thetraveller1 it would definitely be nice.
I just wonder if this would diminish security even if slightly.
There would have to be some sort of relay that picks what profile to open depending on the password you enter.
Does that mean the relay needs to know the passwords for each profile or at least a hash?

        Edit: and what @thetraveller1 said.

A great idea as long as folks understand the consequences as well as the “benefit”.

There is no “Oops, I didn’t mean to do that.”

Few options I can think of:

          • Could open the "first" of those two profiles in the list
          • Or present a list of all profiles that match that passcode to select which one you'd like to open
          • Or just ignore the passcode, unless this is the password from the currently active profile?

Whatever is easier for developers to implement.
But I'd be happy to have such feature, as it would add security in case anyone makes you unwillingly tell them your pincode.

Perhaps it's better to require the user to enter the magic erase-me pincode several times to be sure it's not entered by accident. Inspired by the iphones "10 incorrect attempts erases the phone" option.

It all depends on the purpose of this feature: Is it made to allow a user to quickly erase his phone, or is it made to allow a user to give a false number to the one who holds the phone (thief, policeman) so that he erases the phone by entering the wrong code.
If we take into consideration the second case, asking to enter the wrong code several times isn't relevant. The attacker, knowing that he has a limited number of tries, will not enter the same code twice.

Personally I would like the code only once, and the responsibility lies to the user, who must not make a mistake.

a single code to erase a profile would solve so many issues regarding handing out your phone. From thieves, to border agents and everything in between.

Assuming that sensitive data is in a second or more different profiles, and the owner profile have just few data. There is no need to delete owner profile.

It could be like this, by log in to the owner profile :

              • Main password like today able to see all profiles and to switch to them
              • Secondary password can't see profiles but able to create new one and delete this new one
              • Third case pin code to erase all profiles excepting owner

Yes this is a very needed feature please make it happens thanks
