It all depends on the purpose of this feature: Is it made to allow a user to quickly erase his phone, or is it made to allow a user to give a false number to the one who holds the phone (thief, policeman) so that he erases the phone by entering the wrong code.
If we take into consideration the second case, asking to enter the wrong code several times isn't relevant. The attacker, knowing that he has a limited number of tries, will not enter the same code twice.
Personally I would like the code only once, and the responsibility lies to the user, who must not make a mistake.
