Starting to really like GrapheneOS

There's quite a learning curve. Good stuff on the net - I particularly used the help from Side of burritos, big shout-out to him - but after a few days with almost all my apps set up I am starting to really like it. The design, the apps, the fluidity.
The big acid test is now that bank apps. If that doesn't go well I'd really have to think hard on what to do next. I haven't had the courage to get into that yet but will soon.
Fingers crossed. If all goes well I'll make my donations to both the project and Side of burritos. Everything crossed.

Quick heads up about banking apps, a couple of them worked immediately for me with no special setup, but Chase requires the "Exploit protection compatibility mode" enabled in app settings. As a US based user, so far everything I've wanted to do either works or has a reasonable solution. I share your appreciation for the videos posted by Side of Burritos, and have enjoyed using a cellphone for the first time in years since installing GrapheneOS.

So, I installed 3 bank apps, 2 from the same bank. And the conclusion is....... (hard to do a drumroll on a forum): GrapheneOS is bloody awesome !!

All 3 apps installed withouth any issues whatsoever. They aren't on the community-kep list so I will try to find a way to add them or tell inform someone who can. I felt a little bit stupid to have been so "nervous" about installing them (I am no tecchie) as it was super straight forward.

So therefore, next are my donations to Graphene and Side of burritos.

That is like a serious flaw of that app.

I've only been using Grapheneos for about two months, but I am really liking it too. I come from using a flip phone for decades, so my needs are simple. One thing I like about Grapheneos, it comes with just the essentials. Less is more. It works way better than LineageOS in my experience.

I like the privacy, but it's nice that it's hardened against attacks too.

Agree with the other new users here. The GrapheneOS web install was a mindboggling experience. ("It can be this easy? Huh? Why doesn't everybody do it this way?")

SideofBurritos was stellar for repeating the instructions and adding in those tips and bits of reassurance newbs need!

Next stage: getting blankety-blank GOOGplay to work so I can get banking apps. The nice experience went straight downhill as soon as I had to deal with goog. Not Graphene's fault! (I have a goog account from back in the Stone Age, 10 years ago?, and goog wants everything including my hat size to get that going again. After Graphene, it feels like trying to scrape off cooties constantly.)

Also want to do some fun stuff: wallpapers, ringtones :D I could transfer the files over to the relevant directories if I knew what Graphene uses for that. A search didn't turn it up. Off to do some more hunting.

Creating a new throwaway Google account might be an option if you're just using a Google account to sign into Google Play Store and install apps.

For the notifications, ringtones and alarms, put the songs you want in the corresponding directories : Pixel X > Notifications, Ringtones, or Alarms. The select them in the "sound and haptics" panel in the settings

Or download a file and select it in the settings : Sound and haptics > Ringtones or notifications or Alarms > Add a ringtone (all the way down)
(This will move a copy of the files in the corresponding directories)
