Onlyfun Does this forum target average Joes ?
I would say absolutely it does. One of the main goals of the GOS project seems to be to create the most private and secure operating system **that everyone can use*" (all Joe types included). We see average Joe's on this forum all the time, I consider myself one of them.
Onlyfun ok. How does this encryption connect to online backup feature?
You tell me, you're the one that brought up a usability issue with the database encryption. I pointed out that it doesn't have to be used, that's all.
Onlyfun where will the online backup be stored in case user opts in the feature? Signal servers?
I'm going to assume not. That level of infrastructure is very expensive for no practical benefit. I'm going to assume they're using some S3/S3 compatible storage provider in the background. If so, that's fine by me, there's plenty of ways to do it privately.
They do mention that in the future, you'll be able to select the backup location. I don't know what that means exactly, but hopefully we'll have more granular control over it.
For me, I'll continue syncing my daily backups to my own server.
