I didn't make any changes. It wasn't working on my iPhone or GrapheneOS and then just started working again. So far haven't had any issues since it came back.

For me it's also not working with graphenos. Nevertheless, with a stock Android device it is working...

The My SEAT App (seems to be very near to the VW equivalent) V2.17 stopped working today and told me to update it. And as expected the V2.18 does also not work. It says "App is under maintenance", but GrapheneOS notifies me that this app uses the Device Integrity Check.
I am sure that this check is failing just like with VW app.

Wrote an email to SEAT Connect support, directly adressing the sudden incompatibility of their app with my secure OS.
A quick solution is unrealistic, isn't it?

It has been working for me (Sandboxed Google Play, VW app installed through the Play Store), but it has been really flaky, often not uploading or showing "Unfortunately your data could not be loaded." It works without issues on my old iPhone.

iswrong Hmmm, this could just be a fluke, but data seems to load again after allowing Contacts and accounts in the permissions of Play Services (I was trying this, because they may be trying to detect if you are logged on with a Google account).

I re installed the app directly from the play store today and after the GOS update to my device within the past hour, I have the app working again! Needed to have play services running when I logged in but it's now working for me without it again.

I'm now getting "Connection failed. Try updating the app or reinstalling it from your smartphone's app store."

I just installed it from Play Store to try again. The app has network and sensors permissions (also tried allowing all, but still no). Play Services are available and the latest GOS update done, but still not working.

TimmyTofu Is Contacts and accounts enabled in the permissions for Play Services and are you logged in to a Google account? That seems to have made the difference for me. I think they are trying to check the user's Google (Play) account. Google Contacts Sync in Google Services may also need to be enabled (not 100% sure).

I got similar errors as you did before enabling this permission and it has worked fine since.

iswrong Would being logged in to any Google account sufficient or do you have to use said Google account with the Volkswagen app?

I can confirm that using the Google account made other apps with similar issues work for me, but only if I'd use my Google account (or rather the passkey, I think) as the login to that particular app.

Bebef I don't think it has to be the same. I'm logged into the VW app using my wife's Volkswagen account.

Play services have these permissions but for me it doesn't work.
I still get the message that i should reinstall the app from the app store.
I also enabled the compat mode, but that didn't help.

Bebef I mean the "Exploit protection compability mode" at "App Info" of the app.

For me it did not work. I added Contacts and accounts enabled in the permissions and also logged into a google account but it gives the same error. I first used the scoop mode but this did not work and then tried the full mode,but no chance.

That's cancel culture. They just do whatever they want. But I think, for many customers, software availability is a key factor in their purchasing decision "ID or not ID".
If you have a look at the app reviews on Google Playstore, there so many GrapheneOS users having the same problem...
I've terminated all my software contracts with VW effective immediately (there is a form on the website).
Reason: Android app doesn't work.
Let's see if that provokes some answers.

Do you really need a car app? You should be aware that modern cars carry a cellular modem and report extensive telemetry to the manufacturer, dealer, and possibly third parties. Cars can also be effectively remote controlled because of it. By connecting a phone to the car, you are just adding another exfiltration mechanism, and are allowing data to be exfiltrated even if you disabled or removed the cellular modem from the car.

tux_ tbh no need to lecture everyone on the virtues of having a disconnected car. We all have different tolerances. Some of use even use these cars and apps for work
