  • Main user hibernation/sleep, for battery saving?

Hello, I was wondering if it is possible to put main user to sleep when you are connected to other/work user?
In my case I use main user only for all apps and updates, and phonecalls and SMS.

Most of the case I don't use it at all, and it is active in background using my battery.
Please share your thoughts

dlb No, it's not possible to stop the owner profile. That's how user profiles are implemented upstream.

Are you aware that you can make phone calls and send SMS messages also in a secondary used profile? In your owner profile, go to Settings > System > Multiple users > Profile > Turn on phone calls and SMS.

treequell i am aware of that. but main profile is almost not in use and it is draining the battery.
So obvious solution would be to use main user to update apps and to use apps that are on other user currently.

The reason you can't end the session of the owner profile without rebooting is because of the way encryption works in GrapheneOS:

        https://grapheneos.org/faq#encryption

GrapheneOS enables support for ending secondary user profile sessions after logging into them. It adds an end session button to the lockscreen and in the global action menu accessed by holding the power button. This fully purges the encryption keys and puts the profiles back at rest. This can't be done for the owner profile without rebooting due to it encrypting the sensitive system-wide operating system data.

This is one reason why some people set up profiles like this:

        • Owner: empty
        • Personal: everything you have in owner now
        • work
        • etc

If you want to save battery, just end every secondary profiles' session. You can also choose and pick which profiles are active depending on what your needs are (i.e. personal and work active at work, only personal at home, and none active while sleeping).

unwat yes I fully understand how profiles work. My question was is there a way to prevent or reduce baterry drain from owner because most people are using secondary profiles 99% of the time.

Oh I see. Sorry about that. I missed that part of your question.

After skimming through a discussion you started on here, I see you have apps installed in owner. (the thread: https://discuss.grapheneos.org/d/2994-restore-apps-deinstalled-at-main-user-but-available-at-other-user)

Since owner cannot be turned off (as treequell already explained), not having extra non-GrapheneOS apps in the owner profile can help reduce its battery usage.

The last OS update has changed the install apps to other profiles feature. Owner can now install apps from one secondary profile to another, making app management a lot easier for those of us who keep owner empty.
