mmobder userofgos GrouchyGrape yep, shame on me, though it's kinda expected - tldr the Nth thread with smelly title on weird matter in security-related os.
Joe-FastFeet In general, the design is quite acceptable. But the bluetooth switch in the new design looks absolutely out of place. Just a fact that I am more than sure will be corrected soon.
Koruudo The new UI is from Google's development of Android. GOS offering the legacy design would be a lot of unnecessary work and maintenance to upkeep. I think this thread is kind of unnecessary. Report inconsistences to Google and/or wait for fixes/improvements from them. GOS just uses the designs from Google's Android.
GrouchyGrape Koruudo read the actual post at the top. It's sarcasm and a big thanks to the devs. I literally say "just kidding!" I was sick of everyone wanting the devs to revert the UI so I'm making fun.
rpupkin I don't feel any particular way about the new UI, but my lockscreen clock font seems to alternate between bold and regular
Shadowshading MisterX It works great for me because I'm elderly and I'm smack dab in the middle of my second childhood. 🍻
Koruudo GrouchyGrape I'm sorry, I wasn't responding to you. I was responding to others here that are seriously complaining.
Novalissoide GrouchyGrape people read the first sentence, then look at all our 'likes', then go make own rants, super-encouraged. .
DeletedUser499 nandohyphen1 By the way, is this Android UI change for all Android devices, or just GrapheneOS? I assume it's all Androids. The status bar is very iPhone like now If you re install Android you will find the same UI there. Its not GrapheneOS its what AOSP has gifted the world... we are so lucky....
CharlieMander I really hate new UI. I understand its Google to blame not GrapheneOS. I do wish/hope GrapheneOS one day in far future has the extra time/man power to work on NonCritical UI stuff. I understand and agree that security/privacy is top priority though.
Upstate1618 Everything is just perfect in the new UI. Especially the Quick Settings and Status Bar. You can adjust the size of Quick Settings tiles and are able to turn on or off Bluetooth in just one click. The Cellar Signal strength and Wifi strength are cooler than before. We also have battery percentage inside of the battery icon which saves much space in the status bar. Icons in Settings are colourful too which is more distinguishable than before. I'm super satisfied of the new design. It's also nearly impossible for dev to add a toggle for new UI because it's not a security/usability feature nor a severe bug. They have much more important things to implement.
b1k3rdude I had replied in another thread, as I didn’t believe the discussion about the UI was ' off-topic ' but here we are. https://discuss.grapheneos.org/d/28377-new-ui-aosp/10 Is there anyway I/we can change the thicker/fatter look of the status bar icons without having to use a AOSP mode or app?
CharlieMander b1k3rdude Google Maps started doing "incident reporting" like Waze... Is there a vehicle on side of road? Yes or No? While im driving asking me stupid questions... Distracting. I complained to Google once a week atleast for month's. They finally made the "feature" optional. If enough people complain to Google they might fix it. But I relize im in the minority. I think most other people actually like the fisher price/apple look. Not talking about GrapheneOS user's. Just the Average Android user loves the slop. Google wont fix it... The incident reporting was a safety issue, thats only reason it was fixed IMO. People saying UI is Ugly As, Google wont care.
nandohyphen1 I had a chance to look at the new iPhone 17 today. I can confirm 100% that the new status bar icons are identical to iPhone. Its like Apple and Android teamed up on this one. Probably to get the attention of iPhone users, is my guess
simplenot nandohyphen1 That is definitely the case. Pixel is taking over more and more iPhone users every year.
Ppppppp GrouchyGrape Seriously everybody, what this team is doing is extremely unique and only comes about from unified principles that the OS is based on. Let's show our support by sending them a donation and giving our thanks! Absolutely! I think i owe an appolgy here, and i totally agree with Grouchy although i prefer the minimalistic classical UI also. Thanks for this amazing work! Also i understand the global effect of this UI change. Thanks again!
raccoondad TBH I actually like the UI changes and look forward to them each Android release, maybe I'm weird. My only complaint is that notifications from QUIK have lost their individual contact color, that super sucks, but also isn't needed.
userofgos raccoondad My only complaint is that notifications from QUIK have lost their individual contact color Really?? That's disappointing. It was my favourite feature of QUIK before I switched to Google messages for RCS support.
mar2112 I admit I like some of the UI changes. It still would not have killed Google if they gave users a choice to for instance: use the new battery level indicator or let the user change to something that's a little easier for them to read at a glance.
