TBH I actually like the UI changes and look forward to them each Android release, maybe I'm weird.

My only complaint is that notifications from QUIK have lost their individual contact color, that super sucks, but also isn't needed.

Really?? That's disappointing. It was my favourite feature of QUIK before I switched to Google messages for RCS support.

I admit I like some of the UI changes. It still would not have killed Google if they gave users a choice to for instance: use the new battery level indicator or let the user change to something that's a little easier for them to read at a glance.

I will not re-iterate here what I said in another forum thread, but I like a few of the changes in the new UI, but still have many problems with it (status bar including battery percentage inside icon, notifications, unlock vibration to name a few).

I dove into accessibility and turned off every sound ,buzz, vibration I could find.
My phone is silent, apart from a daily alarm call.
If it wants my attention, it flashes the flashlight.
I place it screen down, it can flash and I see it, that way I am not tempted to keep tapping the screen to see if anything has happened, so I don't use it like an expensive fidget spinner.

The general consensus from reading both forum threads here and on Reddit seems to be mixed opinions on the new battery gauge. As I mentioned somewhere else, I wouldn't have an issue with this if there was an option to put the battery percentage back beside the icon, but here we are, with Google both copying Apple's homework and making the icons look like they belong on a children's toy at the same time.

I actually used to use this feature on my iPhone before switching to GrapheneOS, but stopped after I found out (the hard way) that Android flashes the flashlight even when the screen is on (iPhones don't).

Previously Google have the option to have battery percent either inside or beside the icon. It wouldn't have killed them to leave that option.

As an aside, a few months ago I was having a problem and I spoke with a Google rep. I said that Android was getting more and more like iPhone and they replied that that was the idea. I said that's not a good idea and if people wanted iPhone they wouldn't buy an Android device.

Really? I never saw that option, unless it was only an option during one of the betas or otherwise only present in stock/Pixel Android. Unless you're talking about another OEM's UI?

I had a feeling this was the reasoning behind some of the UI changes. Personally, I actually liked the old Wi-Fi/cellular indicators, because they were different from the norm. And as I said elsewhere, the new ones both manage to be an Apple clone while also looking like they were designed for toddlers, which in itself is impressive. To me (and you), it does seem like Google is trying to win over iPhone users.

The search bar in app drawer is fucked up ? It is far too low and almost covering icons.

For everything else, I don't really care, it is ok for me, except the stupid small vibration icon.

Yes. The GrapheneOS project mentioned that there is a bug in AOSP related to the search bar that they had to fix (quickly) themselves. What you see is the result. I think they said they will make it look better when things settle down a bit, if Google doesn't get to it first.

The first time I saw the redesign I was like: why does it look like an iPhone... but it's not to bad, except the battery indicator and the rest of the task bar.

simplenot I believe it's safe to state that we all agree about new battery icon lowering readability which is not to happen in a fully rational, self reflective and timeless process, hence I expect it to change when Md3E, which is a hefty beast of novel design, actually gets mainstream recognition.
