mar2112 Previously Google have the option to have battery percent either inside or beside the icon. It wouldn't have killed them to leave that option.
Really? I never saw that option, unless it was only an option during one of the betas or otherwise only present in stock/Pixel Android. Unless you're talking about another OEM's UI?
mar2112 As an aside, a few months ago I was having a problem and I spoke with a Google rep. I said that Android was getting more and more like iPhone and they replied that that was the idea. I said that's not a good idea and if people wanted iPhone they wouldn't buy an Android device.
I had a feeling this was the reasoning behind some of the UI changes. Personally, I actually liked the old Wi-Fi/cellular indicators, because they were different from the norm. And as I said elsewhere, the new ones both manage to be an Apple clone while also looking like they were designed for toddlers, which in itself is impressive. To me (and you), it does seem like Google is trying to win over iPhone users.
