I think earlier in the thread (nandohyphen1) you had written that plugging the charger into "an adapter for headphones" and plugging that into the phone resulted in the phone charging. No this no longer works. It seems like the phone thinks all cables are defective somehow, regardless of what kind it is.

What if one of your friends plugs a 6a into the headphone adapter?

Good question, I know they probably have a headphones adapter so I'll ask

Two USB C to USB A (6ft long), A shorter USB C to USB A (3ft), the USB C to USB C that came with my phone, plus my headphones adapter (tried on all of them). Tried plugged into the wall, into my computer, with the phone off, with the phone on, I've rebooted the phone, I've done anything I can think of.

nandohyphen1 I have been having a similar problem for several months now. The only reliable charger is my laptop! My Pixel has decided that the charger I had been using for over a year is no good. It charges for about a minute then just stops. I've tried several chargers to no avail.

That sounds like four cables, not four chargers. While it may be possible to charge a phone from a computer, it doesn't work out in all circumstances.

Oh yeah. I've always referred to that as the 'block' or 'brick'. Didn't know it actually had a name. :) I've tried multiple ones also.

Do the chargers have wattage ratings? Do they successfully charge other phones?

Both. I have chargers throughout the house that I've used since I got the phone. Today I tried all the cables and chargers that I have.

Yes and yes. The chargers say they are rated for max 5V/3A, or 15 Watts. And they will all charge an old iPhone I have

Strange. I swear this started happening to my 6a (and also my friends) the day it was updated to QPR1. All of our 6a's charged great before updating. Although I do have to agree this seems like charging port failure as well. Well anyways, I'm gonna turn my phone off tonight to save battery (its at 85% right now) and I'll do more researching/ testing in the morning.

No, they all still look OK.

nandohyphen1 a tiny droplet of WD40 or ideally, some electronic deoxidizer, distributed by putting it in the cable connector prior to connecting it to phone. It wont hurt it, but may clean and increase metal contact surface area a bit.

I may try asking them. But honestly at this point, this phone already has so many other problems that I may as well just buy a new phone over repairing my 6a. Its gonna be EOL soon anyway. I'm gonna try some other stuff later and see how it goes.

OK, I did another really really good clean of my USB port and all the charging cable ends. The 6ft cables give me problems still but the 3ft cable is charging my phone normally now. My friend with a 6a said they just got a 3ft cable to test this and a 3ft cable works for them, whereas anything longer doesn't. Just a reminder this started the day after updating to QPR1. I'm not blaming GOS at all, but it really seems to have to do with this update, since all of our 6a's charged fine before - didn't matter the cable length.

nandohyphen1 this app, and its customizable 'floating window' can be set to display, among numerous other readings: Battery Current. This can be a way to make a simple comparison of whether a particular changed condition (eg, before+after cleaning the contacts) actually changed the performance in any real way. To some extent it also let you compare different cables and chargers to weed out if any of them gone 'bad'.

I'm encountering another USB problem. Using the factory USB C to USB C cable, I wanted to plug it in to two Pixel 6a's to transfer a large file. Plugging it in, neither device recognises each other. Both devices are having trouble charging. Both are 6a's on the latest stable release (I'm on 2025112101 and the other 6a is on 2025112100). This is seriously crazy since both devices charged completely fine before this update, which makes me suspect this update. I honestly cannot rule out any other explanations. They charged before, now they don't. I've rebooted them, tried different cables and chargers, cleaned the USB ports and cable ends, tried charging with the phones off, used different USB port settings. I don't know what to do now.
