Stock Gallery problem

I was messing about with permissions and wondering if that has caused a problem with the stock gallery, as it currently shows '0 images/videos available'. They aren't gone though, as I can see them all in Fossify Gallery.

Would like to fix if possible, as I think it's causing another issue - nothing I do will rotate any photo.

Basically if there's anyway to reinstall or reset the stock Gallery app? (which will hopefully fix whatever is stopping me from rotating photos).

Give the stock gallery app its expected permissions and try again.

I think I have. But not sure what base permissions were. I have enabled:

Camera
Sensors
Photos and Videos

Working now thanks. Seems like blipping microphone and network permissions on briefly fixed it. And turning them off, and it still works.

Files permissions is on by default and can't be changed. Even though it says 'Not Allowed' when you look at it, it's enabled.

One other thing I did briefly that I think helped was enabling Music and Audio Permission with storage scopes and adding folders. But can turn off and it still works.

Actually, it does not work and show up all photos unless Network is enabled.

I'm mildly curious why somebody would use the stock gallery app, when something like Fossify Gallery works. Is there some problem with Fossify that I don't know about? It certainly doesn't need network permissions, at least.

I don't even use it, and do use Fossify Gallery. I just thought it might have something to do with why I can't rotate photos (and still can't) ala the GrapheneOS messages about disabling or depersmissioning stock apps can break other things.

I am mildly curious why those BS stock apps are included in GOS when there are Fossify variants around that only have advantages.

You cannot move pictures in the GOS gallery. That is a killer feature.

Ok, I can rotate photos now now. So getting stock gallery working has helped.

Fossify is not an option, the project is itself a fork of some
other project that was sold to an adtech company. Who would
ensure it doesn't happen again?
You are free to install any alternative app you wish. But this
should not be a completely random project, even FOSS one.
At least the AOSP apps won't be modified upstream or sold for
questionable reasons.

I would question whether there needs to be a gallery app at all. Or even a camera app, come to that, given that there's no shortage of such things already.

Graphene does not (IIRC) include a calendar/scheduler app, which many would regard as essential, I think. Nor (IIRC) a media player. So it's not as if Graphene is trying to implement everything itself.

I agree. In my ears it sounds a bit like an excuse. Here the list of options:

The AOSP gallery is shitty? The devs could improve that. But the excuse will be we have no ressources to do so.
They could bite the philosophical pill of having a GPL license for a much better already made app.
They could open a fundraiser to get those things done.
They could, last but not least drop support of something that is not a core functionality of an OS like the gallery.

That said, the current state is not satisfying from a user point of view. If you provide a functionality it should meet some minimal requirements.
