schweizer The current state is not satisfying from a user point of view. If you provide a functionality it should meet some minimal requirements.
It's an open-source project. It's provided for free. Nobody at all is forced to use it. There are other AOSP variants that ship with different gallery apps, and different philosophies... and also with less security and privacy.
Meanwhile, there are GrapheneOS users who help in various ways to move the project forward. Some write code, some submit fixes to the web site, some test early releases. If the project seems deficient in some fashion... the developers definitely agree... and pull requests are responded to.
