SIM Card Stopped Working Pixel 8 Pro

Hello everyone,

Apologies if this isn’t the right place to post, but I’m hoping someone here can help. I’ve been using GrapheneOS for a few years now and recently upgraded from my Pixel 7 Pro to a Pixel 8 Pro due to a cracked screen. The phone worked great initially, but yesterday morning, the SIM stopped working.

I made a call earlier in the morning without any issues, but once I got to work, I received a “No SIM Detected” error. Since then, I’ve tried the following troubleshooting steps:

Removed and reinserted the SIM card multiple times.
Restarted the phone multiple times
Reset the network settings
Had AT&T send me a new physical SIM (since my old one was quite worn)
Played with the SIM settings(sometimes the SIM will register under the "SIMS" section in settings, but will have No Service)

Despite these steps, I’m still getting the “No SIM Detected” error. The new SIM works fine in my Pixel 7 Pro, so the issue seems isolated to the Pixel 8 Pro. Occasionally, after restarting the phone, it will briefly show service before reverting back to “No Service” or “No SIM Detected.”

Has anyone experienced something similar or have any suggestions? I’d appreciate any help or advice.

de0u I'll see if I can test one today. I went ahead and flashed the stock os back to the phone, and the same thing is still happening. I will have 5G service for about 5 seconds and then it will show No Sim or No Service.

de0u I was able to get a mint mobile free trial card to test in the phone. Still same story- no service. I also tested this card in the 7 pro to ensure it did indeed have service.

Also, not sure if this is important, but the 8 Pro I have was bought used.

Great idea!

If the P8P repeatedly loses contact with two different SIM cards, and both SIM cards work fine in another phone, and this happens with both GrapheneOS and Google's stock OS... then it sounds as if there is a hardware problem.

One potentially interesting experiment to run would be installing an eSIM. If the eSIM works fine while physical SIMs did not, then the problem might be limited to the physical SIM slot. But if the cellular disconnections happen with an eSIM as well then the problem is more likely to be the cellular modem.

That is an excellent question! I would expect "No service" (with the ability to see the SIM and information from it, sucb as the number) rather than "No SIM". But there are online IMEI-ban-checker web sites (if one is willing to share one's IMEI with them).
