New manufacturer — theories and predictions

There's a thread on Privacy Guides where people made a prediction. Personally, I believe it to be accurate given the constraints. There aren't many options in the end.

Eudyptula my likely candidates would be FairPhone, Nothing, Motorola and perhaps (maybe) Sony.

It was already mention by the GrapheneOS project that it's not FairPhone, not a European company, and a top 10 OEM. So of these 4 it can only be Motorola.

LeslieFH I would like Sony, good design, audio jack 2.5 mm etc, but sadly, Sony is a very conservative company that does not currently sell its mobile devices in the US and Canadian markets, which are large markets, so I doubt it's them. At present, it seems more logical for Sony to extend its proprietary Android-based operating system from its Xperia phones to its Afeela 1 electric cars built by Honda.

As other comments have stated, I think Motorola is a plausible theory.

I had multiple Xperia devices and I really liked them, it would be great to have an Xperia with GrapheneOS, but I'm afraid you're right :-)

Anything newer than my Pixel 9 Pro XL able to run GrapheneOS is fine with me, but not until such device is confirmed and in production. All else is speculation. It seems people like to speculate and all the while they have solution at hand https://grapheneos.org/faq#supported-devices

For most people here it's more like World Cup bets, who's team is going to take 1st. For fun.
Because in practice, it doesn't make any difference who is the OEM as long as it meets the requirements and the hardware is equal or better than whatever Pixels have to offer at the time of release.
We already have a confirmation that it's one of the big brands, so there shouldn't be concerns about reliability
for the most part. 7 years of support is a heavy commitment, so far only Google and Samsung do this.

I am uneducated on the subject matter...
But in my perfect world it would be Sony Xperia!

GrapheneOS is as close to Perfect Software available.
Sony Xperia is as close to Perfect Hardware available.

I'm sure there are 100 and 1 factors I don't consider..
But it really does sound like the perfect combination for my taste.

I love Xperia Hardware on paper. If they would up the software support "life cycle", and add whatever hardware security things GrapheneOS needs to have, then that really sounds like the Zero Comprises Phone to me.
