  • App that replicates Apple Live Photos

Is there a camera app or a way to replicate Apple Live Photos so you can have both the photo and a small video?

Yes. Google Camera has that. They call it "Top Shot," which tbh is a strange name that makes no sense, but it's essentially the same thing as the Apple Live photos.

The description of "Top Shot" is (from within the GCam app):

When Top Shot is on, Pixel includes a short video to capture more of the moment. Pixel will suggest frames that are worth saving. You can also select your favorite frame.

unwat is that like the motion photos?

The issue I have found is you can only view them in Google apps and not other gallery apps. You also can not save the individual photo and separate video file like you can from Apple.

I am wondering if there is another solution?

Sorry. I don't know about all of that stuff, just that you can do that basic thing. I don't know of other apps that do anything similar or support GCam's Top Shot videos.

unwat I want aware of this feature in gcam, thanks for bringing it up.

Hmm. I have a pixel 6a. Can't see the Top Shot setting. Am I missing something?

I see the option to enable it by doing the following:

open GCam > have "camera" selected > tap camera settings in upper left-hand corner > set top shot to automatic or on.

I don’t believe this Top Shot saves a separate video. It’s added to the same image file and only a Google software can read them.

I hoping for a way to replicate what Apple Live Photos can do
