In regular android you can choose the default app that videos would open with, but in GOS I seem to always have to go via the "open with" route. The "Default Apps" settings I can find only include the browser, phone, SMS, Digital Assistant, and Home app, nothing else.

Is there a way to choose an app to be the new default app for videos?

Thanks!

Yes you can, I have just verified by going to the File Manager and selecting a video, via the Open With dialogue I was able to select VLC and also select Always. This set VLC as the default video opening application.

Hope this helps.

MetropleX That's what I was expecting, but all I'm seeing is a list of apps I can use, but not the Always or Just Once options. What am I missing?

I can confirm there is no way to change the default video player other than uninstalling the current default app which will bring back the selection menu.

The solution proposed by @MetropleX did not work for me. The open with dialog of the default file manager has no 'Always' button.

I use File Manager+ (yellow folder, white square, black F). The option is available to open file types with different apps
