skorge Van-de-GraaffeneOS I'm assuming it has something to do with reading device identifiers for RCS, I'm not sure though I was a little confused on the popup also.
MrRoboto1212 Van-de-GraaffeneOS I've had, and still have, this exact problem, and I posted about it a few days ago. https://discuss.grapheneos.org/d/26714-gmscompat-wants-me-to-install-the-device-configuration-system-app-via-play-store skorge I'm assuming it has something to do with reading device identifiers for RCS No, it doesn't. My RCS was in the 'Setting Up...' stage until the 2700 update (now it's stuck on 'Connecting' but i digress) and I received the app installation prompt multiple times before the recent RCS update
Van-de-GraaffeneOS skorge Nope, my client prefers more privacy focused communication that doesn't depend on cellular telephony, so there's zero interest in RCS on this device.
MrRoboto1212 MrRoboto1212 Still receiving this prompt. Not sure why it needs to be downloaded, as it's clearly not a fake version by GOS (app size is about 42kb). When installed you cannot revoke network perms, so I deleted it immediately afterwards.
patienttruth99 Interestingly. I had never seen this before. However 8 recently uninstalled and reinstalled play store and services while troubleshooting RCS. I got the request to install device configuration which I allowed. It then gave me a list of presumably carrier suggested apps which I'd never seen before. I'm guessing device configuration interfaces with the carrier and attempts to install their app. I unchecked everything and proceeded as normal.
Moksh I am also getting this prompt, interestingly my RCS is working and doesn't need whatever this app is.
RockHyrax Moksh i am also still getting this prompt in both main profile and private space along with the set up device prompt in play store, even on 2025100900
RockHyrax MrRoboto1212 are you still receiving the prompt after installing/uninstalling? i have noticed that if i do not deny the installation in time google play store crashes.
MrRoboto1212 RockHyrax Yes, installing then uninstalling the app brings back Play Store wanting you to reinstall it again. Also yes, if you ignore the prompt a handful of times, Play Store crashes
Bramphilips I get this message a few times a day on 2 pixel 8's. Its super frustrating that it keeps coming back. The option to silence this notification is blacked out. Has someone reported this on GitHub already?
randyTheRando I found it installed on my p8a Not sure how it ended up there, probably clicked by mistake on the pop up I guess? I found this page from google https://support.google.com/android/answer/9021432?hl=en I am rather confused. Is this the Device Configuration app ? Or is it something else? It seems to collect quite a lot of data. Is it safe to delete it ? Does someone have a clue?
