"USB tethering" is not part of the GrapheneOS installation instructions.

To install GrapheneOS, following the GrapheneOS installation instructions is important.

If so, they are outdated and you need to install the correct version.

I've compiled a command for you, that will install the newest version.

Keep in mind that you don't need adb and fastboot when using the Web Installer. Although you should read this section about flashing on Linux.

n3t_admin I would not recommend encouraging an inexperienced person to override programs installed by a package manager. Also, the directions found in the GrapheneOS installation instructions for downloading fastboot contain an integrity check.

Since the official directions exist and work, it's not clearly advisable to instruct users to follow ad-hoc procedures.

The official directions reference an old version (35.0.2 vs. current 36.0, where a "use-after-free in libusb backend" was fixed!) and don't install anything. They add the binaries to $PATH for the current shell. After restarting the terminal, you'll end up in the same position you started in.

It also doesn't look like Google provides Sha-Sums on their download page. I agree that a check should be performed, but I guess Google doesn't? I could provide my own, but that might too be compromised already, so I omitted that.

As for overwriting binaries installed by apt - I am not aware what exactly that would break, but sure, you could always uninstall the apt version first to be sure.

When I enter “fastboot --version,” the following message appears: “fastboot version 28.0.2-debian.” If I want to update it to version 35, as recommended, I enter the following command: “sudo apt-get install android-tools-fastboot,” and I get the following output: fastboot is already the latest version (1:10.0.0+r36-9).

I don't know if I am limited by my Linux Mint operating system.

With the PATH command
I don't know what to do with the command, as my version cannot be updated to version 35.

Standalone Fastboot
I downloaded the file and tried to install it. Unfortunately, after the version query, version 28 still appears.

Perhaps you can explain to me what is going wrong and what I am doing wrong? I would be very grateful.

Please uninstall the platform tools you had installed via apt previously.

I think it should be something like

sudo apt remove android-sdk-platform-tools-common

Then proceed with the instructions.

GarpheneOSNutzer The command-line installation instructions assume some familiarity with that environment. If you are not familiar with changing your PATH, and/or the instructions provided for that are not working for you, it might be more efficient to use the web installer.

GarpheneOSNutzer have you installed the updated platform tools? If not, you will need to add them to your $PATH. That's an environmental variable that specifies where to look for programs. You can proceed with the script after you've done that.

GarpheneOSNutzer you can follow this section in the guide or alternatively use my command I posted in my first response to install current adb and fastboot system wide. This will make adding to $PATH unnecessary and you will have the latest version (36.0.0) installed.

The problem is that I already tried that and ended up with version 28. Can you describe exactly how I should proceed? Because when I enter the command for the standalone solution, Fastboot is not installed. I'm really at a loss here, sorry for my ignorance.

You should get a zip file named "platform-tools-latest-linux.zip".

It's best if you just go to the official site and download the Linux version. Save it to your Downloads directory.
